Fiskars hatchet mods?

found this in another forum (made by sharpshooter)- I sent him an email if they were still available

Here's my kydex head cover. It works pretty good but it's not nearly as cool as that Sharpshooter setup.

Paracord.

I tried shock cord but it allowed the cover to be too loose. I just slide the compression keeper out a little and it can slide over the poll and release the cover.

I broke handle off, not a mod but I've used just the head a few times. Been meaning to send it back for warrenty just haven't got the chance. Any one else have problems with them in colder weather?

I had a new 14" model that suffered a shattered handle under normal use on a cold day. The splitter (23"?) model that I own has been reliable under the same conditions, though.

got my sheath today from Kiah- fit is spot on, the sheath snaps on w/ authority

figured I'd wrap the handle at the same time

Ive been using fiskars axes and hatchets in cold Canadian winter for years without a problem whatsoever.

Wood handles break too.

Thats a good looking wrap:thumbup:

I have a full size Axe from them, and have been telling myself that im going to wrap the handle on it, but my fingers get sore just thinking about it. :thumbdn:

maybe kinda old to bring back; but I'd say a paracord wrap like a turks head (holds really well); and an adjustable lanyard that can be used "thumb style". Many people make the edge more durable w/ convex grind; personally I like the sharp scandi edge as it doubles as a "knife" blade for me. just need to be careful of the hard knots so you don't ding it. this video shows the finished version, I've got other vids showing more detail how-tos

That is really a great idea! I enjoy your ideas and I've got to check out how do that turks head knot. Thanks for the post.

Thanks schmittie! I'm working on some jeep grab handles (paracord of course) which I hope to take the opportunity to film a couple knots I've not done a how-to on yet (multi-strand diamond and the double matthew walker)!
