Fiskars hatchet mods?

Nice work on the hatchet handle wrap. It was nice to see someone use the lanyard loop like I do. insert thumb and wrap around back of hand then grip the handle. I see so many people stick their whole hand through the loop.

I convexed the shoulders away, put some rubber tubes under a canvas tape for nice grip and painted the handle with earth color.
It was already a nice working hatchet for the price as it was but I wanted to personalize and tweak it a little bit.

The link didn't work for me...cld u please re-link it or tell me what forum/thread it was? I want one of those covers for my Fiskars! That is very very very nice!

Only mod I did to mine is 550 wrapped it. added a lanyard. LOL I haven't actually used mine yet.......still a virgin axe lol

here's the sheath on mine. The front is kydex I believe. Here's the back. Something similar in leather should be easy to make

maybe kinda old to bring back; but I'd say a paracord wrap like a turks head (holds really well); and an adjustable lanyard that can be used "thumb style". Many people make the edge more durable w/ convex grind; personally I like the sharp scandi edge as it doubles as a "knife" blade for me. just need to be careful of the hard knots so you don't ding it. this video shows the finished version, I've got other vids showing more detail how-tos

Thank you for the comment about convexing. I have been wondering why people talk about convexing the scandi/saber grind on the Fiskars axes. I have two X15's and a huge X25 and absolutely love the edge on all three ... like a high speed scalpel. And the little $10 Fiskars sharpener keeps them that way. A good (old) Nicholson bastard file can fix any nicks in seconds ... and I've only had one nick in three years.
