Fixed Blade as EDC?

Thanks for the kind comments on my pics. :o :)

I've been using my new found love of photography as an excuse to buy more knives even though I don't "need" anymore. This thread isn't really helping me cut down on my buying though. Lots of great looking edc on display here. :D

Hi Anthony. Here's a link to H.D. Lennons site, http://www.hdlknives.com/ . I own 2 of his knives, both of which I really like. He seems to have the cheapest prices I have ever seen bar none. Practically giving his knives away.

The other fb I think you're asking about was made by Chris Peterson aka "No sweat" (his Mountain Man name). He seems to have someone sell his stuff on ebay ocassionally. The sellers i.d. is "markrandallp9602". Chris forges his own damascus and his wife makes his sheaths. That's all I really know about him.

here's mine:

I work in a stables so you need to have a good knife... .

For the those more intense, thankless jobs I carry this TAK1.

That TAK1 looks like a nice piece of cutlery Physics.
Any kind of problems with it (chipping, sharpening, durability, etc.?)

I am thinking about getting one of those bad boys if they are worthwhile. Please let me know. Thanks. (Also the price is right, I can get one for $70.)

Thanks for the link...just order one of his knives from the web site. Your right about the prices:D. I'll just have to post another picture when I get it:rolleyes:. Preston

Hi digdeep.
I have obviously used mine quite a bit and I haven't had any problems with it at all. It takes a really sharp, grippy edge and holds it well. The knife has some weight to it so if you need to chop something you can. Nice large micarta handle fills the hand even with gloves on. I did put a small but deep chip in the edge near the tip while cutting tree roots but only because I hit some rocks. :o The only real draw back is the sheath. It's kinda cheap with bad stiching. But it does alow for left or right side carry and the belt loop has a snap for easy on/off. Hope my mini-review that helps.

pjsjr, glad I could help. Which model did you get? I was thinking it's been, maybe, a year since I bought one of his knives and liked a few of the designs he has up for sale.

Tim, it didn't have a model number, but if you go to his gallery website it's the one smack-dab in the middle. I chose it because it's the smallest at 61/2":).

He shot me an e-mail right back saying that he thought that his website was down and the knife had been sold...and that he would make one but it would be about a month. Of course, I said no problem.

Keep those great pictures coming, I'm learning much from them. Thanks again, Preston

Hey Physics, which model is the one you have? Also, what is the steel?

I liked the website, but could the pics GET any smaller?!?!? I'm old and my eyes aren't what they used to be. Almost needed a magnifying glass to see what was going on. Of course, you'd almost need a magnifying glass to see his PRICES as well!

Thanks!

I believe that I read on the site that it was 1095...that and the prices put me over the edge. Preston

Nice knife you picked out Preston. Glad to hear he's gonna make you one.

Anthony, the Lennon knife in my pic doesn't have a name nor is it on his site. I bought it from him back when he was selling on ebay. If you think the pics on his site are bad, you shoulda seen the ones he had in his auctions... Looked like they were taken from space with a cell phone camera. Ugh! :( Can't believe how lucky I was when I opened up the box. :D Preston is right about the steel, 1095.

The other Lennon I bought was also from ebay but in damascus. Here's a few picks.

Physics;

How does your HDL knife in 1095 perform? does it hold a decent edge?

THANKS!!

KPD

KPD, this little utility blade takes a nice sharrp edge and holds it fairly well. 1095 is a good high carbon steel and the heat treat seems pretty good on my knife. It came with a polished, razor sharp edge but I prefer a "toothy" grippier edge for what I use it for. Sharpmaker with medium and fine sticks makes for quick, easy sharpening.

Thanks Physics.

I emailed Mr. Lennon last night, and this morning I got an email back, saying that he no longer makes knives, only tomahawks:confused:

PS: sorry for highjacking this thread;)

KPD:)

Awwwwww... bummer. :( :grumpy:

He made some good knives and I'm real glad I was able to get a few when I did.

This thread sorta went sideways awhile back. Thanks for the info KPD.
