Fixed Blade Camp Knife Suggestions

I'm looking to get my sons a good all around camp knife with a 5-6" blade for under $150.

The BK2/BK22 seems to fit the bill but I wanted to see if there were others that I might be overlooking?

You've got a lot to choose from, and not a lot of information on what you expect your son is going to be doing with it as a camp knife.

Coming to mind are: Cold Steel SRK, Kabar Mk 1, Buck Compadre, Buck 119, and a whole host of others.

I will recommend either a Buck 119 or a Cold Steel SRK. We really need more information to make better suggestions.

BK2 would NOT make a good camp knife. Ughh. Too short to chop, too thick to cut worth a sh@t. Only thing they do worth a damn is not die.

Your boys would be much better served with a BK19.

Any of the Becker Knife and Tool tweeners or a Terävä Jääkäripuukko in a size that’s correct for them. Cold Steel’s SRK or many of the KaBar blades would serve well too.

Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110 or 140 would be my choice. Get him the accompanying leather sheath as well. They are excellent

For a little more money, you could get him a Buck 124. Beautiful, rugged, old school

Well, all Becker Tweeners or the 140mm Jääkäripuukko are solid choices.

If you want a knife with full sized Becker handles, check if you can get a BK10 Crewman and have the best of both worlds in a cool package

SRK in 3V can be had for $110 if you know where to look. You can get it with green, flat earth, or orange handles and matching sheath.

I agree that the BK22 or BK2 would be hard to beat in that price range.

If you wanted something a bit smaller with stainless , I’d look at the LionSteel M3. Fantastic knife and superbly made.

I am using the mora garberg for my camp knife which is pretty decent in a stainless steel.

Of the knives I currently own, these are along the lines of a camp knife for me.

Becker BK16

ESEE 4 (with or without the Candiru))

ESEE Lazer Strike (CZ P-10C is optional)

Truthfully and preferably, I could get by with a much smaller fixed blade, as long as I had a saw or hatchet.

I would say the Esee 6 is probably your best bet. It’s probably one of the greatest production camp knives ever made. They can had under $150 with a little bit of prudent shopping.
