Fixed Blade Camp Knife Suggestions

The Mora Pathfinder is like a larger Mora Bushcrafter with a 6.75" blade. I see it offered well below MSRP in the $ 70 - 80 range.

The Fällkniven S1 can be had around the $ 150 mark. Not much of a slicer though.

I prefer a high saber of full flat grind for a camp knife.

The LionSteel M7 would be a great choice. I've seen them offered around the $ 150 mark as well.

The OP asks for "all around camp knife with a 5-6" blade", what parameters/features a 5-6" knife should have for this?

Lots of choices out there but Another vote for the Esee 6. I prefer the sculpted micarta handles.

This is interesting topic, because the only two 5"-6" range knives I have are Condor Scalper and Mora Classic 3. Whatever the camping activities are, the hunting, surviving, and tactical ones are highly improbable for me. Can somebody suggest a knife that will perform better than either the Mora or the Condor, and in what kind of tasks ?

Depends on what you do when you go camping.

First off, I set up the tent. That’s sometimes involved pounding in tent stakes with the butt of a knife. No problem.

I’ll typically go gather some logs after that, delimb with the knife, split logs down with the knife, get a fire going.

Then I’ll cut up some food - maybe chop up a chicken, peel and slice some taters, cut some onions, etc. Cook up dinner.

I’ll usually finish up whittling. Bare minimum sharpen some sticks for the kids to roast marshmallows for s’mores.

For my uses a camp knife doesn’t have to be huge, but it shouldn’t be a little wienee knife either. I’m not building a log cabin, but I’m not only gonna slice open MREs. A good 4” - 6” blade with a comfy handle and good geometry does right by me.

This one’s about perfect for me (but well out of OPs budget, and pretty near unobtainable).

Beautiful knife. For what you described above, I’ve used the Skrama 200 and it’s perfectly suited for those camp tasks (except pounding stakes). I carry a lightweight plastic mallet for that. In fact, I use that same plastic mallet for batoning and it works great for that as well.

Probably the best value for the quality and materials used is the Architect Field Buddy 5.5 in 3V. Can be had for under $160 with out a sheath and under $200 with a quality sheath from TKC. This knife is incredible and has the best price to performance value I’ve ever personally experienced, even better than SYKCO (my all time favorite) and Terävä.

If I was the OP, this is what I’d be going for . I actually have this in my cart as we speak but I have so many types of these knives, it’s the only thing holding me back 😜

I would have recommended the same if it wasn’t more than the OP said he wanted to spend. I love this knife.

I’d check out some of the knives by LT Wright or touch base with some of the makers on this forum. Look in Knife Exchange may find something there.
