I'm sure this subject has been heavily covered, but what's BladeForums without reposts!? ;)

The idea of fixed blade carry is really appealing to me- but I have 0 experience with it.

So I'd like to hear about your experience/thoughts on it.

-What knife?
-Is it comfortable?
-Vs. folding knife?
-How do you carry? Why?
-Any other thoughts.

I absolutely love a small fixed blade for edc. My favorite is my TRC Knives TR12-S. It's just about the perfect size, Sandvik steel and feels good in the hand. Big enough to cover any edc task, but small enough to not be scary. And it was an absolute bargain at $70. I carry it in it's kydex on my right hip.

And with a Leek for size comparison:

There are plenty of other small fixed blades out there for a huge variance in cost and I've tried a bunch. This is by far my favorite. Your mileage may vary.

That is a pretty blade.. is that a g-clip on the sheath? And is that a slight recurve? After having my blur for a year I've decided I am not destined to sharpen recurves haha :(

^^^^ I like that TRC. I've never heard of them until now. But now I know. I seriously might be getting one in the future after seeing it. Thanks for posting. I like 12C27 Sandvik with a good heat treat.

I'm not sure what the clip type is called on the sheath, just something basic. I believe it will also accept Tek Loks. No recurve to the blade, just a trick of the light. He makes some fine knives, check his site or occasionally in the custom for sale section here.

I am new to the fixed blade world. If you are looking for a decent EDC fixed blade check out the Kershaw Skyline fixed blade they can be had for $18 right now. They are a great size 3.125" blade it is about perfect for EDC I just got it today but after carrying it most of the day it is very easy to carry very light weight compared to the 0300 I usually carry.

Ontario RAT-3, very small, heavy duty, economical, all around GREAT knife.

Actually I REALLY like the look of the ESEE 3 (practically is a Rat 3) and the Izula 2, but I really can't pick between them.

So if you or anyone has carried the Rat/ ESEE 3 and the Izula 2 let me know what you think.

Well lets see. I've been on a bit of small fixed blade gathering spree. So far my favorite is the strider mfs. The overall length is at 8". I carry it in pocket with a paracord rip cord on it.
Tops mil spie 3. Just under 8" carried the same way.
Tops on point tactical 8"
Will add some more later.

I've also carried the izulla 1 and the bk 14. I've found the grips a little small for my taste. But then again I wear xl gloves.

The mfs is great. I made some micarta for mine. Watch the exchange and you can find them in the 150 range. It truely feels like a big knife. Plenty of room for a hammer grip with some room to spare. Another thing about it is the fact that all of mine have been between .020 and .030 behind the edge.

I carry the hell out of my Tim Scholl custom. It rides about 4 o'clock and I will carry it with a folder. Here lately its been my new large Sebenza. I really enjoy it. Its small enough to not stick out like a sore thumb but big enough to make me feel cool :D

Sorry for the broken posts I'm working nights. If you plan on pocket carry the pants you wear come into play also. My work jeans I can carry a bk 16 with a inch or so of grip visible above my pocket. I'm packing a esee 4 with the tic grips right now. My jeans I wear off work. I mostly carry a busse game warden or the bk 14 due to the pocket depth.

The Izula 2 is a great choice if you have medium sized hands. It works just great for me and i barely notice it more than a folding knife.

For fixed blades I have 4,
an older benchmade that I found in my truck a few weeks ago (still have to go through it, give it a sheath and sharpen it)

a BK11 which is nice, but I'm not particularly fond of the handle, a bit small for my liking and am planing on pulling it out of rotation when I get some sheaths made for the benchmade and the next knife,

This one from fishon217 which will be replacing the BK 11 once I get a sheath that is more adept for daily carry, (nothing wrong with the one that came with it, but I don't wear a belt ;))

And one from TobinSmith from this post 12th pic down, the one in the middle. This guy stays in my front pocket almost every day.

I carry all of my knives IWB, on the strong side, between 3 and 5 o'clock except for the one from Tobin, that fits nicely in a relatively unused pocket. They're very comfortable to carry, most of the time I forget that I'm wearing.

Why there? Most people in the "business" world frown upon fixed blades... why... no clue.

Of my last collection, I had one folder left, a spyderco pacific salt... It's served me well and still is a good little knife. I just decided to carry fixies instead.

I carry a Koster Scout in natural canvas and love it. I carry it in the Pocono pocket sheath it came in, which is very light. I don't notice it my pocket at all.

Sheesh I had no idea there were so many good looking functional small fixed blades...

I'm thinking I'd stick to IWB carry because I don't want anything hanging off my belt and it's a great advantage to have less in the pockets.
