Fixed Blade EDC

Sheesh I had no idea there were so many good looking functional small fixed blades...

I'm thinking I'd stick to IWB carry because I don't want anything hanging off my belt and it's a great advantage to have less in the pockets.

You might want to check out the Grypon M-10 from Cutlery Shoppe. Has both an IWB loop and Spyderco G-glip that will interchange according to your carry needs. I've still got a couple.

Actually I REALLY like the look of the ESEE 3 (practically is a Rat 3) and the Izula 2, but I really can't pick between them.

So if you or anyone has carried the Rat/ ESEE 3 and the Izula 2 let me know what you think.

Not quite exactly the same, but I have an original Izula, and had an RC-3. Carried the Izula regularly until I got a BK14, which I now prefer for the blade shape and size. Carried the RC3 a little until I traded it, I felt the handle was overkill for the blade size and thickness. I have an ESEE 4 now, it feels more balanced than the RC3, and I actually carry that in my front right pocket as much if not more than the BK14.

None of these knives are difficult to carry as long as you have a few carry options; the longer ones aren't going to carry in a back pocket well, so a front pocket sheath or belt sheath is the best there.

edit: I should add that the flat, relatively thin scales on the esee 4 / rc3 make them surprisingly comfortable and concealable, far more than their length would suggest

Check out Survive Knives. They are an up and coming knife company right here on BF and they use CPM 3v, M390 and are doing a run in s90v soon! I ordered the GSO 4.1 and cant wait to review it. This company looks like it will give the big boys a run for their money. Only time will tell.

+1 for the fixed blades. not to mention the four above are great choices, as well as the two pics on page 1... would like a price on that natural micarta beauty if anyone has that info. Now to throw my 2c in, if price isn't a huge problem, I would suggest the Fallkniven F1. it's probably my favorite factory knife of all time... so much in fact, i've bought the S1 and A1 in the years since i have had it. it's a little steep at around $140 +/- but it's a hell of a knife, and worth EVERY penny, and more. Over the last 5 years, i have literally thrown almost everything at it you could ever need a knife to do and it's always come back for more.

Two of my latest EDC's have been fixed. First was Böker Mini-Pry but the knife was too thick and cutting edge too short. It carried okay in pocket, but had habit of going horizontal. Second one that I carry currently is CRK Pro.Soldier, also in pocket, carries much better, is lighter and doesn't go horizontal. I prefer pocket carry.

Just picked up a Spyderco Mule Team MT-06 for that very purpose in a trade. Still need to get a sheath for it and have already used it for some light EDC tasks (took care of some tall, tough weeds and cut up a cardboard box).

Glad to hear that, I got an F1 on the way to me at this moment.

i currently carry a benchmade nim cub II, next on my list though will be an Izula II and I really like the looks of that TRC knife

I'm expecting a ZT/Strider bayonet. 7.5" of .25" S30v.

I have carried the RAT-3 in the past as EDC, I thought it was great! I know that the ESEE 3 is the same design, but I think the steel is different (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not familiar with the Izula 2, I have heard that it is good though.. Anyway, I am/have been very impressed with Ontario products. The price for the RAT-3 is only $75 on Amazon.com, which makes it even cooler.

I just bought a EESE Izula II to EDC love it! pocket carried it in a suite on Sunday field dressed a deer monday pocket carried it in dress pants today love it I can not see my self buying anymore folders for awhile but I want more small fix Blades. I handled the Izula I today I like the II much better!

The Gryphon m-10 is too tactical for my taste, even though from what i've heard it's a great value.

ridnovir, what's that orange micarta Bark River knife? That blade looks tempting..

Charlie- oh geez...

Yeah I've look at the F1 but how do you carry it? The carry method that looks best to be is IWB carry with some sort of boot clip carried in the small of my back.

Thanks so much for all the posts guys!

I carry one of my Hidden Keys every day. Sometimes, along the beltline as such. Sometimes vertical between the belt and waistband. Depends on what I'm doing.

Horizontally because it is easy to get to with either hand, and can be out and moving in less than a second. Much faster and easier to access than a folder. I still carry a small folder for the majority of utility tasks.
