Fixed blade lovers

AF----Yer gonna love the Spyder kitchen knife. It's my go-to knife when I cook.

I would love to be able to carry a Street Beat concealed here in CA. Oh well, the paranoid laws out here are worth the weather to me. Besides, I'm plenty happy with my folders. I can't complain.
The Street Beat's next on my list but still having thoughts on the Bill Moran.

I prefer FB's myself. I have the Mule and the Yang kitchen knife and they are both first rate. A small skelly fixed blade like the Mule can be concealed as easily as a folder with a good sheath. Especially if it is thin like the mule.

I liked the Kumo as well. I did my Mule is a similar fashion with a same and paracord wrap and was wondering what the reasons for and against the epoxy were? I was going to do the same to mine.

I only have a crappy cell phone pic so far. It still needs a bit of finishing work but overall I am quite pleased.

I believe since Spyderco's overall mission is to make working cutting tools; yet they wanted an "Asian" design theme, the use of the epoxy would yield a harder use/longer lasting cord wrap. So for: longer lasting.

Against: some just don't like the design since they think it looks like an expensive prison shank.

The designer worked hard on a wrap that would offer no slippage for thrusting or cutting actions as well. This is important since there is no finger choil or traditional guard on the knife. I'm confident he succeeded in this endeavor.

Glad to know you also own a Kumo Zenheretic! How's the blade, done any sharpening already?

The blade cuts flesh easily; I cut my gut when carelessly resheathing the knife one time.

Since one Spyderco is sufficient for my cutting chores; I haven't used this knife enough to warrant sharpening. :p:o

Resheathing? I've seen a photo once about this kind of accident, was it you who posted it? Do you own a Street Beat too?

Hiya Ryomaru!
I like fixed blades too.
My favorite fixed blade has to be the Lum Tanto FB.
But that's not so much a usin' blade as it is a work of art.
And whist many cutlery companies these days originally may have began with tactical folders, Spyderco on the other hand, was about knife sharpeners.
And so, it's only natural that Spyderco Knives are at the forefront of producing cutlery which actually cuts efficiently.

Hello GIRLY! Like that Asian design too, unfortunately its already been discontinued by the time I revived my interest in knives.

Hello there! I saw this thread and thought I'd throw out a little love for the Temperance. It's also been discontinued, but there are still a few out there at good prices. I just got one last week and it's a fantastic knife. I haven't had a chance to use it too much, but I did use it to make dinner last night. It's one of the few non-kitchen knives that I've ever tried for kitchen duty that actually works well it that roll. The handle is super comfortable, and the sheath with the Tek-Lok is comfortable and convenient for every carry position I've tried. The knife is a bit big for carrying concealed, but it can be done. I'm not too concerned about that though because I don't really want to carry that big of a knife every day. . . I don't need it, and I certainly don't need the trouble I would have if a LEO decided he had some cause to search me. I'll mostly be carrying it for camping and hiking. I haven't tried it out to see how it will ride best on my pack, but I think the Tek-Lok will fit on a non-padded part of the hip belt just fine, and should be able to be switched quickly and easily onto my regular belt when I stop for a break or to make camp. I'm also considering trying to make something out of leather that the stock sheath would attach to and allow me to drop it down for carry more on my thigh, below the belt on my pack.

I also got a Mule Team knife. I've just tried a couple of different cord wraps on it, but haven't found one that I'm really happy with. I'm waiting to see a few more with actual scales on them before I decide what I'm going to do on mine. The carbon steel seems to be telling me that it wants wood scales or possibly a leather cord wrap. I used it last weekend on my back porch to make some shavings and kindling for a fire. It's certainly a tough knife. . . still had a shaving sharp edge after I batoned it through a few slats from a broken pallet that I brought home from work. It even withstood a few accidental encounters with the brick patio. I was afraid that with as hard as that steel is that it would chip, but that wasn't the case.

I'd like to get a couple more Spyderco fixed blades. . . A Moran drop point, and maybe a Dayhiker if I can ever afford it.

I couldn't possibly know what you have seen :p but I did post a picture of my bumbling.

Yes I own a Street Beat. ;)

I like attaching tek loc equipped knives to the strap of my backpack. I use the Yang in the kitchen pretty much every day. It is one of the best buys because you tend to use a kitchen knife a lot more than e camping or fighting knife. I EDC knives for both utility and self defence. I am planning to get a Street Beat eventually. They really have to be seen in person to do them justice.

Yeah, it needs to be held really ;)

I would like to see a micro sized version of the SB. Like a Buck Hartsook or fixed Ladybug but with that design and a little micarta. I was thinking a micro mule would work well also.

ahhh... Street Beat... I envy you guys! Btw Zen, I recall the photo I saw about the resheathing accident, I saw it on the other spyderco forum. I hope it never happened again!

Hey, I,m Scott, new to the forums. What is the resheathing accident. I make sheaths and would like to get info to possibly avoid a future accident in my own makings if possible. Curious.

Thanks, Scott

And surely any good and proper resheathing accident is entirely worthy of a second viewing...

:D
