Which do you prefer? Fixed or folding?

I think Stabman is right... he usually is. My preference is fixed, typically paired with a traditional... that said, if I had to choose--fixed.

Lately, this:

This. I carry folders much more frequently, but I wouldn't want to be entirely without fixed blades.

Yay! :D

I always have a AG Russell Woodswalker in the rear pocket of my backpack, so I guess I pretty much always do have a fixed blade with me.
Of course, there's also always a Swisschamp in there too...so both.

Since I carry folders more I'd have to say folders. But only due to the convenience of pocket carry.

For me, it depends partly on the task, partly on the environment.

Normal EDC, an ultralight folder gets my pick. Unobtrusive, agreeable to others, plenty strong for daily tasks.

For anything in the woods, on a work site, or on a hike, I prefer a fixed blade for the simple fact that it's a lot harder to lose than a knife clipped to or slipped in a pocket. I don't carry a big belt knife or anything, just a little ESEE Candiru that hides well while in town. I know I'm not going to reach for it and realize it's a mile back up the trail, or somewhere deep in the brush pile, or buried in the middle of an excavator track. I don't carry it for survival tasks.

I like to carry a fixed and folder when I can. That said... I almost always have a folder, I frequently have both, I rarely have only a fixed though.

Great knife that Woodswalker....but my wife stole mine!

As for fixed vs folder....I'm part of the "The answer is "Yes"" crowd. Depends on what I'm doing or where I am.

When I got a CRKT No Bother, I bought one for my wife as well...it's a great strategy to keep her from snagging my knives. :D

She isn't a knife knut like me, and would likely kick me in the balls if knives became her normal Christmas present, but she does appreciate having some quality knives to use.

Except in the kitchen; for some reason she prefers them to be cheap and dull.
She'll have me sharpen her EDC folders, but not the kitchen knives.

It depends on the application, but I generally carry a fixed blade and two folders, all with different uses.

I carry both - typically a small fixed blade plus a large folder. This pair below - a Spydie PM2 and Bradford G3 - are quickly becoming one of my favorite combos:

Ah! Clearly she likes her kitchen knives like she likes her men.

Hey-ooohhh! Ba dump dump.

Sorry...it was just hangin' there.

Stabby, nice setup. Marci, it would have been wrong to not accept it. Good show all around!
