If you hurry, Malanika has 2 listed right now at reduced prices under ‘fixed blades’.I’m much more of a folder guy. But lately I’ve been wanting a fixed blade. At the moment , I’m favoring the classic Buck 119 with S35VN and green micarta. I’d love to order a custom 119 from Buck but a lead time of 6-8 weeks ruins that notion.
So before I buy a 119 , what else is available that’s similar in size? It’ll be a daily/occasional carry for the winter along with a folder. Here are the specs I’m looking for :
- Stainless blade (semi-stainless like D2 or CruWear will work too).
- Full tang.
- Overall size 9”-11”.
- $400 price cap.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
The seed has been planted. I’ll have to investigateFor $400 or less you can get a knife made by one of Bladeforums finest to your exact specifications. Your steel, your handle material, your design….. Nothing better than “made to order”!

Which models are the middle one and the one on the right? AwesomeThese all come in under $400 as well. I really like the Buck for stainless. I also second the Buck 117 suggestion.

I do like the guard and blade shape of the 119. I was just hoping to get something a bit more premium if possible. But I have no problem with a 119 in S35VN or MagnaCut. 119’s are full tang , right? That’s a sweet spot, both size and budget wise. There are hundreds of good knives within your specs, might want to think more about what kind of blade shape, guard, etc., first.
For example: do you like the guard on the 119 ? How about a Kephart ? Etc.
I were you, I’d try to get an AEB-L knife from one of our custom makers, for example @Volunteer Knife .

I absolutely will do thatOP... THIS posting is giving the best advice....
Both with some good names, and that link.... Look what Others have in that link.
Look what might fit your needs?
When I'm working with someone, I ask a bunch of questions....you really need to First know what you want to use it for.... And being an EDC, that kinda helps already.
Again, go check out the link posted.
Hundreds of knives there.
