Fixed blade suggestions

I’m looking for a good all around camp/outdoor knife. I’m thinking between 4 and 6 inch blade, comfy handle (micarta or g10 preferred), not excessively heavy. Ability to use a ferro rod is a bonus but not a deal breaker. Under $200 preferred.

Too many choices. Been looking at Becker, Esee 4, Tops BOB. Benchmade Bushcrafter or upcoming Anonimous look tempting too (and over budget). Maybe Fallkniven S1 (not sure about the handle).

Any guidance in narrowing my choices would be appreciated. Thanks.

Those are all excellent choices. You may want to also consider the MoraKniv Garberg or Kansbol, plus a variety of knives from Condor Tool & Knife.

The Benchmade Puuko and Leuku are also solid choices and have the benefit of CPM 3V steel.

Another point to add . . . it's virtually impossible to pick "the right outdoors knife" on the first try, regardless of the quality and quantity of advice received. At some point, you have to pick a team (or teams) and see how your choice(s) perform(s) in your hands with your skills doing your tasks. I've been practicing bushcrafty stuff for a couple of years now and I've tried a variety of knives, but it's taken me this long to focus on what I think will be "the best" for me.

Yeah, I could name 50 knives for using out in the bush and I'd be happy with any of them. Partly, because I'd just be happy out in the bush. There is such an abundance of riches these days when it comes to choices for bushcraft knives. The downside is that it's such an overwhelming selection that it can befuddle first time buyers.

As well as 50th time buyers! It's a good problem to have when it boils down to having a hard choice among so many across the entire spectrum of prices and performance attributes. We're living in a good time with respect to knives!

I’ve been a big fan of the ESEE 6. Hard to beat as an all around camp knife.
Be careful of getting too thick of a blade, it wil hinder the usefulness of the knife.

What I'd like to throw in is that if you're mostly looking for something for "woods bumming" tasks, stick with a 4" (or so) bladed knife, and pick up a Silky brand pruning saw. You can get an F180 for about $30 and cut through things much easier and safer than using a knife to chop.

LOTS of helpful advice. Thank you all! I'm going to take some time to look up the many suggestions and maybe finding a shop I can compare a few in person.
I know it's been a while - what (how many) did you end up with?

I've been testing my Lionsteel M5 (sleipner) hard recently whilst "wild camping". Doing things with it perhaps I shouldn't do such as batoning very very knotty tough thick rounds, prying etc... Its held up great and holds a perfect razor edge through extremely hard use. Easy to keep very sharp (a few strops) and in damp UK weather with no rust what so ever.

Along with the Ruike Jager which I also own (but not tested as hard) you really don't need to spend any more imo.
