Fixed blade Winkler vs Survive GSO

Without reading all the posts prior to mine...I'll jump right in.

I've owned both GSO 4.1 in 20cv and 3v and a few Winkler's but specifically matched up...the Belt Knife in 80crv2.

I have nothing bad to say about either. However the Winkler Belt Knife IMO is arguably the best of the two brands you're looking at. Keep in mind, Daniel is ranked extremely high as a seasoned bladesmith. He's received numerous awards and his knives prove it.

Previous posters have hit the nail on the head regarding steels. 80crv2 will have a higher initial sharpness, but 3v will keep a lower sharpness for longer. The 80crv2 should stay razor sharp with merely an occasional strop, the 3v will probably need more work. 80crv2 will have slightly better edge stability at a thin edge.

If you're likely to be 'in the field' for any length of time a lower alloy steel like 80crv2 is easier to keep at high sharpess. Many swear by 3v though!

Personally I find Mr Winkler's designs much more attractive.
