I want my knives Used.
I use them....
I've been thinking Alot about cost. It's really hard to pin down. Whole pages could be devoted on that? I probably shouldn't clutter up this posting with My rambling.

I'd gladly talk more about Cost.
I've been saying for a couple years now (most people think I'm a little weird/crazy) that nobody Really knows what things cost now. Nobody really knows the value of our money? It's probably going to take 3-5 more years for our wages and cost of goods and services to stabilize and become understood and believable again...... Maybe.

To answer your question...... I Just wanna make knives.
As of now, I've been giving away All my knives for free.
I wish I could keep doing that.
A good new friend here, and well respected knife maker kind of scolded me.
Telling me to charge for my work.
I'm sure he was being nice to me, but the more I thought about it I kinda got a different view.....

I make knives very part-time.
I have a full-time job.
A bunch of people Here are full-time knifemakers. That's what they do.
That's how they feed their families....
I Don't want you to buy My knives. I want you to buy Theirs.
I'm always pushing potential sales to the other maker's. This is Their world, I'm lucky if they let me play here once in awhile.

As an answer to your question about what I hope to charge?
I hope to be as good, or better with regards to my quality. But I'm not going to drastically underbid my fellow maker's, stealing their sales. The market finds and rights itself...... eventually. Ugh. I will sell cheaper in my opinion as far as my value, because I have no name, no brand loyalty yet. I'm nobody. There is No reason to buy my knives. I still have to earn that trust. I'm ok with that.
Again, I just wanna make people happy.

I thought about giving my knives away here, and letting people pay me what they feel they are worth? Almost the opposite of real life....haha.
I'm not sure if anyone has done that, or if it's against the rules? It was a thought.
But I've been watching people like who you named, and more.
I have their knives too.... It's how I learn, and develop what I want to be.
Buying and using a knife teaches you Alot.

I'm All about handles. I really don't focus enough on blade design, I dream about handles. I like nice, boring handles. Full, comfy.
I've had comments that all my knives look like butcher knives with broomstick handles (actually they said something not family friendly) but Yeah.....I like clean, simple, classic and boring...... Something you can grab onto and hold all day.
Wood handles, maybe some micarta. I want to try some bone and stag.

I just (today) bought more ebony, osage, a nice piece of bocote, and the first time I'm going to make something with lignum vitae. I'm excited.

Sorry about the long rant.

I can't wait till you get one of my knives.
 




This might be getting marked at some point in time.... It's a smaller knife. A Craftsman Knife.
With vintage micarta, black liners and stainless threaded hardware. I still have to clean the edge, sharpen, and make a simple kydex sheath.

I like using Jarod. I'm getting close for a batch to him too soon/now.
Also I'm More excited about two other makers here who are offering/willing to help me.
I won't name names, unless something goes for sale.... Idk what I'm Keeping for ME?

Also, I play with HSS alot. The Craftsman Knife above is from a PHSB. I really love whipping out one every now and then.....this one is my personal Beater.....over Thanksgiving, I schooched out on my belly onto the lake and Stabbed my knife though over 4" thick of ice this year.... Just to see if I could. No damage.

Sorry, I should've been more specific.

Peter's Heat Treat is probably the premier place to send a knife right now. Paul's BOS is the other I know of (guy that did Bucks BOS HT.. but I'm not sure if he still does that.. gotta be retired by now but I'm sure his company still exists as Buck still uses it). There's also Jarod Todd.. he does a remarkable HT.

Another edit: also love the idea.. but not sure how many will do you right on sending money after they recieve a knife (but that's just me being pessimistic probably). I know I wouldn't feel right if I received a well made blade and never paid a dime for it unless it was an established giveaway (even then I'd probably give them a very deep discount on something nice I have and was planning to let go of.. as a kind of thank you as it were)

Handles are my favorite as well. I have hundreds of knives I've resold and traded due to handles. I like a simple handle like what you showed. I can't wait to use one bud! That vintage micarta one looks choice 🤌

I recommend checking out the makers sub forum, good makers with lots of making advice and some business aspects to selling. Make a good knife and a good price to at least cover cost, one thing I have seen is be careful of taking custom orders, getting behind and then back logs and irritated customers, much like what happened with AA forge. I think if you get a good reputation for a good quality product you can make what you like and there will be a market to sell them as your rep grows, that way you are free to design and experiment. I really like the knives that Redsquid2 makes, good quality and maybe some cosmetic issues, but are meant to be used.

I have a full-tang custom crash-axe from 3/8" 5160. 19" overall, and about 3-1/2lbs, it's a big piece of steel Once it starts moving, aint nuthin in this corner of the county bad-ass enough to stop it.

That looks like it'd be really heavy, but, if the balance is right, it won't matter, cuz it'll still be heavy. Not something I'd likely carry on my belt, unless maybe I wuz goin out for a steakburger........
