FK Size Comparison w/ S!K & Busse

Nice!

Did you support it on your fingertip, or a flat surface?

I did a few on my finger tip and it was difficult to support it well.

My instinct would be to lay it against the Primary bevel, and pull it back across that to shave the piece - moving the workpiece and keeping the blade static, and maybe putting a bit of tension on the overhanging portion of the work to bring it to the edge.

I'll have to try doing a toothpick feather stick soon.

Derp. I'm an idiot. My first thought was that he was carving the toothpick out of rough wood - not feathersticking an existing toothpick.

I was pretty impressed by how perfect the business end of that toothpick looked [emoji23]

you don't need fine control when you're drilling with 9"

Au contraire, unless you want to hear crying about smashing into the end, you better be prepared to limit the depth of penetration. Not too much fun in that. Well enough fun I have some kids to show, but not as much as you would imagine. Lulz!

It's a picture from awhile ago, but I think i just held it firmly between my index finger and thumb then took it slow.

I'd like to try it on some finer whittling tasks, for sure - its geometry is amply acute that it's pretty slicey for a big chopper, and the edge starts rather close to the handle scales for good fine control. The 1095CV takes a crazy edge too, so it's quite bitey. Likely a bit unwieldy to do much fine work requiring the tip though... the clip and swedge probably make it a half decent driller, but managing fine control 9" out is a bit challenging.

Yeah yeah, easy innuendos there ;)

Damn thing sure can chop and baton like crazy though. Super fun knife to whale on stuff with.

I might have to try one of these out one day. Becker makes a great knife and the handles are so damn comfortable!

Try using two hands on that 9 incher!!

[emoji1]I love comparison picture as it helps me get a flavor of the knife that I am going to purchase. I hope someone will finds these pictures useful.

These 2 are my favorite fixed blades by a long shot! I liked the Production Kephart so much I bought another.
I only have one FK, but I'm cool with that.

I'm glad to hear you like the kephart that well. I've got quite a bit of use behind the field knife, but had just received the kephart and am anxious to put it to use. I like Andy's production line anyway and with Nathan making the scales, it just makes it an easy buy for me.

Is the belly on that 3v Field Knife a little bit different to the Delta 3v ones?

No, I don't believe so Luke. Maybe just the angle of the picture, or the bad lighting. Nate can say definitively, but I see no difference with them side by side.

Thought I would post a few comparisons in case anyone finds them useful. This is my first CPK, and these were the first comparisons I made when I received the knife yesterday. Sorry about the pictures--the lighting was tricky this morning.

Overall length and blade/handle length are very similar to the (much narrower) Bark River Aurora:

Handle dimensions are a little smaller overall than two similarly-sized Fiddlebacks, and the handle contouring is very different (Bear Paw--middle and Terrasaur--bottom):

Overall I really like the knife. I have to say it is much heavier in hand than I expected, and I don't care much for the pointy pommel. But then again this is a different style of knife compared to the rest of my knives, so I am learning as I go.
