Ebay seller flames-n-knives is questionable at best, and their communication is extremely poor.

After trying repeatedly to find out the shipping status of an item and getting the run around, I finally requested a refund of all monies and a cancellation.
Their replies while giving me the run around were fairly prompt, but now they won't respond.

I will be persuing all available avenues for getting my money back from flames-n-knives, and will of course never do business with them again for any reason.

If they frequent bladeforums they can of course tell their side, and you can make an informed decision about whether to do business with them.

I've ordered from them several times, the last time they were a little tardy, with barely any communication, but I still got the knife. I would order again, but would still be wary.

I have the same experience the last transaction i had with flames-n-knives. I ordered a Spyderco Calypso Jr in ZDP steel on Sep 20.
My guess is that they sold more of these knives then they had in their inventory.
I had to wait untill the next batch of Calypso's arrived and Steve emailed me that he had sent the knife.
This is the first time i had such a long delay with Flames-n-knives.
The knife is still not here (international shipping) but it should arrive in a few days.

I hope it's only a small glitch and not a "sign of the times".

Flames-n-knives seems to move a large volume of knives per month and most customers still seem to be positive so i hope it's only temporary.

After my initial post, I emailed flames because they of course deserve a chance to tell their side if they feel the need, and I don't think they frequent this forum.

I recieved 3 emails from them within an hour, so they are aware of this thread and my intentions reqarding pursuit of my funds, although they did not repsond for 2 days before this after I put in writing my request for a refund.

I absolutely refuse to do business with any company or individual that engages in selectively poor communication.

Mike,

Steve here responding...

You have not responed to any of those 3 emails ... Why? I explained to you I had not received any email from you about a refund before today.

Why did you ask for a refund just 3 business days after you paid for it? I dont have a problem refunding you, I would just like an honest explanation.

Mongo-Man, The C52's were a Pre-Order auction and all my Pre-Orders have been shipped now. You will be one of only a few lucky people to get one of these. Spyderco didnt make very many at all. You will be very happy with this purchase

Hello Steve,

You filed a dispute just minutes ago with ebay, which I have also responded to through ebay, so you know exactly which auction I was the buyer for, and you therefore know the auction ended with buy it now on 10/26/05, and that I paid immediately after through paypal.
It's not 3 days, obviously, and it was your lack of communication regarding the status and then the subsequent request for a refund that has resulted in my posting my less than satisfactory experience with you, here.

Now that the ebay dispute that you initiated is complete, I will expect to see a refund of $112, which is what I sent to you through paypal.

If you, for whatever reason, cannot find the payment in your records, I will gladly forward the paypal transaction number from 10/26/05, to expedite my refund.

Hi Mike,
I didnt file a dispute, what I did was file a claim that we both agreed to not complete this transaction so I could recover my seller fees from this transaction so that I could issue a full refund as requested. This has been done, Thank you for completing the ebay form that allowed my return of fees. Your refund has been issued in full and should be in your account already. Iam sorry this transaction didnt work out better. Iam also sorry I didnt receive your first emails so we could have worked this out. If you still want the knife I am sure we can work it out and put this misunderstanding behind us.

Steve

I have done business with these folks before and I was treated extremely well during each and every purchase. Geeze, demanding a refund after three days??? Maybe if it's a B&M establishment, but I am not Mike [hooray:D :D ]

Maybe it's you Mike................................... :p

Steve,

Yes, it landed in my account a bit ago, and I thank you. I also am sorry it came to this, as I don't like making my private business public and I do not take lightly a dispute with a business owner.

If the package ever does land on this end I will of course send it back to you, as I do not want anything that does not belong to me.
If you have in fact sent this item since 10/26/05 and do not recieve it back from me, please do let me know as that means it has not been recieved arrived on this end.

Thank you.

I won't buy anything from "flamesnknives" because I don't care for a couple of things.

First are these auctions where you use a picture of the FRN Delicas and Enduras that is 7 years old:
6560361849
6560361874

Did you really not look at a single Delica in the last 7 years to see that you were showing the picture of a discontinued and now collectible model while the description is for a new one? Or are you aware of it and hoping someone wanting the old one won't know better?

The second is your pre-orders. Are you aware that this knife isn't likely to be made until January? You can't be very sure you will deliver it in 30 days. Even if it were made next week it would be a close call. And I think you have had it listed for months now.
6575203748

If you are going to offer pre-orders on stuff that doesn't exist yet, you could at least keep on top of things.

I have only dealt w/ them once. Last year some time. E-mails were answered promptly and I received the knife in a timely manner. Just my 2 cents. Sorry to hear about those of you who had bad experiences. No one wants that.

Sorry this transaction didn't work out for you. My experience with Flames and Knives is that they have some of the best prices on ebay. I've bought from them 4 or 5 times. Some of the purchases have been slower than the knives I have bought from private individuals, but their prices have kept me coming back.

I have purchased four or five knives through Flames and Knives on Ebay and every transaction has been smooth. Fast delivery, excellent communication and all items as described.

99.3% possitive feedback from over 11,000 transactions tells me that they run a good show.

As with any business, problems arrise from time to time, sorry to hear Mike, that your problem made its way to this forum before it could be resolved.

Anyone posting a thread along these lines really should give us more details to work with. One has to allow for the possibility that different people will have different thresholds regarding their definitions of "trying repeatedly" and "getting the run around". Did you send two e-mails within an hour of winning the auction and then give up, or five per day for three days straight? To my mind, "getting the run around" suggests someone is telling you one thing but doing something different, or giving you a different story every time you contact them. In what sense were you getting the run around?

We're all so certain that everybody is out to screw us over that any percieved irregularity is seen as definitive evidence of dishonesty, or at least complete incompetence. Makes us likely to jump the gun, I think. And yes, I include myself, unfortunately.

I don't mean to be insulting, but in the absence of details you're basically asking us to take your word for it, and most of us don't have any reason to do that.

Regardless, I'm glad you got your money back.

I've had a few good experiences with Flamesnknives, including one which involved some very slight factory blems on a Spyderco. I e-mailed Steve about it, and he hand-picked another and immediately shipped it to me along with a check to cover my return shipping costs for the blemished knife. Shipped it to me before I shipped the other knife back to him. Now that was a while back, but his posts here suggest to me that he's basically the same guy I dealt with.

I will NEVER buy from flames and knives again.
Last thing I bought was a gift for a frien I was going to see.Paid on a Sunday, was charged 7.95 shipping, asked that it be shipped USPS as I needed it by the next Friday. It wasn't shipped for 3 or 4 days after I paid and then shipped UPS ground.
They are also listing preauctions on the ZDP Delica with a short ship date listed.Spyderco has said that these will not ship until the first quarter of next year.I think this could really srcew up someones Xmas shopping.:thumbdn:
BTW heres the listing on the Delica, ready to ship in 14 to 30 days or less?
Oh yeah, not the correct picture either.

So you worked out this deal before you bought the knife? Or did you buy it and then make the requests?

I did not work it out before but I thought it would not be a hard request to fill.
I never heard anything at all from them about it.
I did get it so I left them good feedback on ebay.
Its my choise of what dealer I buy from and with so many dealers out there that have so much better customer service I do not feel the need to ever go back to Flames and knives.

Absolutely, it's your money, spend it where you want.

It's great that your willing to give us all the details. That way we can decide for ourselves just how poorly we think you were treated, and whether or not we think your complaint is valid. Much more informative and useful than broad statements about "poor customer service", or a certain vendor being "questionable".

Agreed,it is very important to know exactly what happens so a person can decide if it was something that they would or would not be ok with.
I have seen a few things posted here and there about other dealers that I have had no problems with at all and I will continue to buy from until I do.
The last one was posted here about countycomm,I have bought from them many times with no problem at all, fast shipping and very good service.
