Flashlight for the Bush

Dedicated hali fan, I like my G2 Nitralon for field work. not gonna cry if it gets lost or wrecked, yet it still puts out a considerable beam.

I have a G2 with a drop-in LED that I bought online...the LED gets about 10-12 hrs of runtime and puts out about 85-90 lumen I think. It rides in my side pocket of the Carhartts everyday and works like a champ. I also have a 6P LED in the truck that sees little use. It seems much heavier than the G2 when I use it...can't go wrong either way with the Surefire products imo...

Is that a runtime until dead or to 50%?

Quark AA2

Some features that make it my favorite outdoor/camping/backpacking light include.

1) A Moonlight mode of .2 lumens that runs for 30 continuous days or 360 days for 2 hours a night

2) A reversible pocket clip

3) A Beacon mode that flashes at regular intervals to help you or others (re)find your camp (perfect for the late night cat hole or visit)

4) Uses the same AA batteries that I use in my GPS and 2 way radios

5) Waterproof to IPX-8 standards (it will survive a dunk in the water)

I love my fenix PD30. Very bright with adjustable levels to maximize battery life. Very well built and tough too.

I dropped mine in a farmers field on a deer hunt and found it the next year. Picked it up, turned it on and it has been going strong ever since. I bought the CREE drop in because Surefire did not have an LED version when I bought mine. VERY bright, batteries last FOREVER.

The G2 is quieter than aluminum and is much nicer to hold in extreme cold

For a "bush-light" I really like a head lamp. The best I've used (and I have several) are the single battery Zebra headlamps (either a single AA or CR123 battery). Even here in Afghanistan, I use my Zebra more than any other light; it gives you great flood illumination and decent distance plus the biggest advantage being "hands-free".

Even trail hiking in the dark is much easier with a head lamp. Try setting up your camp with a hand-held light compared to a head lamp. I still carry a hand-held light, mostly for searching and reaching way out into the darkness, but about 90% of my illumination needs are accomplished by my Zebra head lamp. Just my 2 cents:D

Which one do you have? I'm guessing the H30, since I hear it is a lot easier for you guys to pick up CR123 batteries compared to everything else.

Yeah, I have both:D I do use the CR123 version for duty, but when backpacking and camping, I use the AA version...it's just a little cheaper to use. A lot of the miltitary devices (NVG's, SKL-COMSEC devices, new DAGR-GPS devices, our EOTech optics, etc.) are using AA and with lithium battery options, it gives you a better power source for extreme climates and extended life.

Feel free to laugh on this one, but I have a Swiss Army flashlight that came with my Farmer SAK, and I love it. I have a Shurfire Back Up and a G2 led, but I hate the 123A batteries. My SAK flashlight runs on 2 AA is LED and although does not have a push button switch per say, if you press down on the front end of the light, it shines. It is my new backpacking light.

laugh if you will at mine, but i have been using a JETBEAM M1X. The HIGH setting will bring a Helicopter in to pick you up :D animals DO NOT the high beam or the intense strobe either. The LOW setting is more than enough for walking at night and will last over 200+ continuous use, longer if used intermittently. There is a LOW setting beacon flash, i have timed it at over 500 hours before it gets visibly dim (on 18650 Li-ions).

sure its big, but to me the user interface features, the blinding high, long running LOW, and the ability to set it up as a locater beacon with either a LOW or HIGH flash, SOS and strobe outweighs the size. It has replaced over 8 lights i used to use.

Conveniently, I know a really good place to buy the Jetbeam M1X. :D

It really is a sweet light, shilling aside. It is easily the brightest and best throwing of the production MC-E lights I sell and have seen. I really like the programmability of it as well. Any light that lets me tell it what to do is good in my book.

wow many shillings.

I have a couple of river rock AA LEDs I love, and I have excellent luck with both my Gerber LX3.0, Gerber Infinity Ultra, and both AAA and AA versions of Victorinox LEDs. For my EDC I have a Victorinox Fireman in a blet sheath that has the loop for a AAA light, and for a while I used a Victorinox, but switched to a Minimag AAA simply because I like the light better. None of these are very pricey lights, but all have worked really well for me.

I had a nitecore d10 and it was awesome until it snapped in half (my fault, covered by redonkulous warranty)

Just got a Quark AA, seems to be pretty good.

I really like the size of it and the pocket clip. Not so much a fan of the morse code SOS mode... I keep hitting it by accident.
