So far I couldn't be happier, the stock settings are really nice, triple click is actually a very reasonable brightness for checking pupils in patients for proper constriction without blinding them! (tried it out on my wife and she didn't even blink! AMAZING) its going to be really nice to have one light that does everything. The standard setting is perfect under the hood, and full bright on a momentary press from on is actually pretty intuitive....It's not a weapon class defensive light, but its plenty bright for close quarters indoors..I'll try it out tonight outside and see what kind of throw its got. Also its really cool to have that old incandescent color in an LED. The build quality is really nice and it feels pretty solid in hand. ALL and ALL I'm Psyched!

Oh and Thanks FO, your story of the custom put things back into perspective, I couldn't imagine! On a funny note, i just received an empty box from the USPS that was supposed to contain fountain pen ink, It was soaked and covered in orange with a soggy hole in the bottom and a note on the plastic bag they wrapped it in that said " sorry we broke this, Too Bad for you, You're post master"(paraphrased) ! I couldn't believe it, but was slightly chuckling picturing the orange ink that must have covered everything in the sort bin!!!

NJ I really liked your write up on Lenslight and your ratings system. I would buy one, however with only two options 5 or 300 lumens it falls off my consideration scale. It is like having a car that can accelerate to either 5 miles an hour or 90. Even though it may be a great build quality and great paint job, the speed thing, well you know.
I really hope LensLight makes a rotary from 5 to 300 then I'm in.

Wowcoop so glad your HDS came and you are pleased with its field performance, that is really what counts.

Congrats. Glad you finally got it. I'm trying to decide whether to get a 120 now or preorder the 140 hcri.

DB68 thats a tough call, I'd study rubi's beam shots, thats what sold me on the 120 HCRI, so far its enough, I've got a fenix tk35 and its eclipsed after the second brightness level. But in a room or within say 60 feet I'd say it will be plenty fine. Rubi's looks pretty close to every other light he tested, if you focus your attention on the leaves in the foreground. The color rendering is really nice. Either way you go I'd bet you'll be a winner..... Unless you need this for a tactical advantage, then I'd keep shopping..

Thanks FO! Also, I should throw this out there- I was quite off in my assessment of distance the lens light could handle. I think it absolutely could provide a reasonable amount of light out at 200 yards. I didn't have a good target tonight at that exact distance, but I did measure that from the door of my garage to a barn was right at 160 yards this afternoon. When fully focused, the lens light actually threw quite a bit of light that far. It was a fairly small area (probably 8-10 feet) being so focused, but it absolutely provided usable light at 160 yards and I suspect with the amount of light there that 200 is certainly a fair top end distance. I was pleasantly surprised at my mistake.

Like knives I use flashlights multiple times per day each and every day. Some peeps go into the kitchen to fetch a knife or scissors, some stumble in the darkness...I simply reach into my pockets.

With that in mind, data sheets mean diddly...they are simply a compilation of light-specific information to give some reference to what is to be expected of the tool in comparison with similar tools.

So, it's real-world use that separates the good tools from everything else.

If I cannot discern say...a large rabbit from a small cat at distance, if I cannot instantly tell friend from foe, and so on...the light isn't "bright enough" no matter what outputs are claimed by using rechargeable cells. And if a light fails to function; that's far worse than being dim.

Thanks for that.

Link might get pulled as I'm not sure if that biz supports BF.

I'm holding out for another rotary or a next generation HDS (if/when).

I hate buying anything without reading reviews. I swear I get burned at least 75% of the time if I don't do my due diligence. I figured I'd share here in hopes of helping prevent anyone else from this. A week or so ago I stopped in a battery store a few towns over and picked up the only set of rechargeable 123a batteries they had. I figured they were worth a shot instead of ordering some online. I have to say the tenergy rechargeable 123a batteries I have are just awful. I may not be satisfied with any rechargeable 123a's (we will see), but the performance on these is just dismal. I like the concept of rechargeables for a long list of reasons and they worked well in my little zebralight, but if these are indicative of what can be expected I'm back to good old disposables.

I sent you a PM on a good source for RCR123's..

Sent you one as well. I have (and use) rechargeables also but still maintain a good supply of cr123's, have never fully gotten comfortable with ALL one or the other but if I had to choose would not go with rechargeables.
I Never buy a light that uses rechargeables exclusively.

as an FYI. They were not expensive but have performed flawlessly (I think this is the first time recharging after 6-8 months and they did not need it) .

was considering rechargeable 123's, tenergys in fact... Thanks to you NJ, for sharing, you've saved me time and $$.... i'm guessing that when it comes to 123's rechargeables have half the life and degrade quickly..... please someone prove me wrong, I hate throwing batteries away, seems to me to be bad Karma.... but having reliable light is a top priority for me..the search becomes even broader!

Page 17 post #339 I gave some info just like Rubi's.

Lights and cells need to be somewhat matched for maximum performance. But even then, some lights can still burn through any cell (rechargable or disposable) faster than other comparable illumination tools.

Thanks for the battery info! I'm going to check out some of the suggested rechargeables and order something with a little more life. I know the price of being rechargeable is shorter battery life, and I'm ok with that as a rule. I was just disappointed that this battery lasted me just a couple of days. I tend to use my lights quite a bit, but I was expecting something more along the lines of every week and a half to two weeks based on the regular cells.

Funny how I drilled down and concluded that the same rechargeable setup would be most appropriate for my needs. From my research most flashlights claim that you get extra lumens with the added voltage a rechargeable provides, trade off maybe less run time. Thoughts anyone? My disposable supply seems to be performing flawlessly at this point,so that will be my mainstay and rechargables will be for the extra kick on occasions, either way redundancy is the key in EDC. Redundancy with backup torch and both refuelers and throw aways.

Still waiting for my HDS 200 rotary, been only three weeks since I ordered direct. I'm patient , I have amassed enough torches to entertain me for now.

Sooooo, speaking of torches. Has anyone had an HDS cerakoted or can PM me recommendations for where I can get one cerakoted. My amazing girlfriend mentioned that she would like a nice flashlight for her purse and I wanted to get it done in a color to match her iPad / iPhone cases :)
