My Harris Tweed flat-cap has a herringbone pattern. The older workers' flat-caps were cloth, rather than tweed (only rich folks could afford tweed), and every man and boy wore one. They have made a bit of a resurgence here, in recent years, but are generally either plain, like the Kangol caps, or tweed. Dog's Tooth (or Houndstooth) caps are rarer, in part because not many folks have suits of that pattern made up, and Harris Tweed is cheaper and more accessible than it was in the past
