I asked the guy selling the Battle Mistress if INFI had been discontinued. Here's what he said:

he discontinued that model because of price of steel is what we were told by Busse Knives on more than 1 occassion.I noticed he has add for custom model,But none available without prepay & wait,What ever the reason,if something is no longer made or readily available,I call that rare, and if you do not like my explanation ,go elswere

I post this so Busse and/or others can contact Ebay about it. I already have.

.

I sent a message asking what type of meterial Macarta (his spelling) was. Sent back a note saying he did not know.

I hate scamming bastards like that. Does he actually think that David E would fall for that crap? He should get the Ebay smack down for that:mad:.

Guys,
Come on, give him a break, he's just another scumbag (or not) trying to make a buck with a bit of lies. At least he's selling a quality item. Don't buy it if it upsets you but no one needs you to crucify the guy. There's plenty of shady characters selling junk in every city, in every country all over the world. We don't go out and lynch them for it, we just buy elsewhere. It just seems a bit harsh when ignoring it is all that is really needed. There's got to be something better to post.
Just my thoughts, not meant for anyone in particular.
PS
I don't intend to write any rebuttals, so reply as you will.:)

I tend to agree with book'em. As the eBay seller said, "if you do not like my explanation ,go elswere." Why complain? It's not going to do you any good.

Some people on BF tend to bash eBay, PayPal, USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc, etc. I guess if it makes you feel good, go ahead, but I see no point in it. When I get bad service or poor products, I don't go back. It's as simple as that.

Actually, this belongs in the GB&U.

Seems a lot of folks have advised this person, and the person is not interested in correct advertising.

The point is that people should be warned, would you recommend a bad restuarant to one of your relatives?

Let's see, "Lying Scumbag" -- "Lying Non-Scumbag"

Interesting distinction.

Attempting to sell an item based on a false material representation of fact is attempting "Larceny by Trick" in many states (or all). Wonder if the $$$ amount is high enough to constitute a felony?

However, I take the point that misrepresentation is hardly unusual on eBay, and this is far, far from the worst allowed in that venue.

But you have to prove intent!

Leon Pugh
You betcha'. But it can be proved circumstantially. And in many states, "reckless disregard for the truth" (just guessing) equals intent. This guy would have a hard time convincing a jury that he is not doing much worse than just "guessing."

Sending the item sold through fraud through the U.S. Mails or accepting payment through the U.S. Mails can make it a federal hit.

(Not new advice, but "Only pay by credit card." Be reasonable while putting yourself in a position to hold the seller to the description he or she gives.)

Of course I would warn my friends and relatives about a bad restaurant, but buying stuff over the internet is not quite the same thing. The same thing goes for auction arms and gunbroker. There is a lot of crap going on there. Caveat Emptor. (Be careful)

Just for the heck of it, I looked at this guys past sales on eBay. The descriptions of most of his other auctions look like they were written by a different person. I wonder what that's all about.

i doubt the folks at ebay know what infi is . probably dont care either lol.

not much to get upset about imho, if ya dont like the item dont buy it.

true dont buy if you dont like.

however, the seller is misrepresenting a company that many of us are deeply committed to. to see the description, and apparant lack of concern for corrections provided by many, leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well.

and isnt this what the gbu is for? to let others know about these types of sales?

and no, no one here has to prove intent. this is not a court. it is quite simply a misrepresentation, seemingly intentional, to boost interest in the item.
