Flea Market finds

Since u like punches, u need to find a 47 with a punch. Most I've seen has a Spey but I've seen a handful with a sheep foot and punch.

Nice finds, and nice work on getting them back in service!

I stopped by a large flea market on the way home from work Sunday morning. Saw a few potential candidates for my pocket, but the owners apparently thought they were made of gold.

I picked these up today. Not that great, but pretty good for $24

Nice score Glenn, all three look fantastic, I really like the bone on that Miller Bros. and I'm a big fan of those old jacks.

Yeah, I was surprised to find these. Stamps were a little more obscure than most I see. They weren't pristine, but not bad for the price.

Wow Glen, that Miller Bros is a killer. Is the bone that good on the other side. I'm wondering out loud if it's a cotton sampler. It doesn't look like the standard Miller Bros rope/Navy knife. I'd put a few good pics on Bernard Levines board and ask what he thinks. If you do a search for Miller Bros rope knives you can see there is quite a difference in frame shape. Might not do anything to the knife before finding out what it is.;-)

Best regards

Just had to sharpen the blades, blast out gunk, q-tip the insides a bit, rub some small rust spots off of the main blade, and WD-40 the joints.

I talked with a fella who was quite interested in the knife and is a huge Millers Bros. collector. He called it a rope knife. The bone looks as nice on the other side, although one of the screws was buggered up and gone. There is also some rust under the scale. Otherwise, it's solid and snaps like a bear trap.

Looks like the 897 is ready to go. Nice one!

I've been busy, a little behind in my finds, bought theses three for $15 bucks total, not too bad.

I have not done any research on these, just off first appearance, so if I'm wrong I'm wrong.
First up scout/utility knife, no mark, only made in USA, I'm thinking WWII, possibly Ulster, all steel pins and liners, and Pre-safety can opener

Broken scale & can opener, but everything else is tight, and it's a beefy tank.

Not sure what the year? Found some reference that said 1900-1920, another said Pre 1930? When I get some more time I'll research further, steel is nice took a keen edge as did the scout.
Next 1978 2dot Case 6244 Jack

This guy was loved by someone, blades are black and worn, bone is smooth where the thumb rest & missing shield, no play or wobble, but no life in the springs only snap is on the main blade closing, it's more of a friction folder now, but I like it.
All three were very clean all I had to do was sharpen and some oil.
I will update info when I learn more about these items, if anyone has any info feel free to post.
Thanks,
Pete

Nice Cowboy bowie there...I like those a lot...always did. Good knife to get a kid...my dad did back in '67...still got mine but the handle is long gone.

I gotta ask. Where do you guys find these thing? I never, ever see stuff like this at flea markets or garage sales...never. I found a nice, almost new SAK once and picked it up but nothing interesting like these old beauties. I'm in Indiana. Maybe people here use 'em up or just don't ever sell them? It's a mystery to me.

Kind of like the "...forget that, you can pick up a nice old revolver cheap" WHERE? Off topic completely but that's another myth...that there are crates of nice old revolvers sitting around somewhere for $200 a piece. Not around here. If it's not made of zinc, it's $600...period.

Anyway, congrats everyone on your killer flea market finds.

I'm with you! All of the flea markets around here are stocked with:
Chinese tools
soccer jerseys
parrots & ferrets
skanky stripper clothes
stale fudge
knife experts that know exactly what antique shop retail price is for every knife they have!

I agree with Clutch. I never see stuff like those that I just picked up at the local flea markets. Especially up here in New England, where everything ever made is an "antique". Even if it has one handle missing and the blade worn down to nothing. That's why I was so surprised to get those, and even more shocked at the price I paid. So, they are out there, just well hidden.

So are the clothes skanky or is it the strippers? Both perhaps?

I find knives for sale that are beat up and partially busted in boxes that you have to sift through (tetanus shot is a must), and the non broken and/ or partially broken but well known brands in nicer display cases.
Common finds at my flea market:
Books,
Furniture,
Toys,
Cameras,
Tools,
Fishing items,
Militaria,
Music,
and some stuff that is made by the seller like honey or paintings.

On the way to the grocery store today from the mountain lake house where I am vacationing with my wife's family I spotted a flea market. Stopped on the way back to the house and picked up this 1991 Remington R1178 trapper with delrin handles. Hope to get some natural light photos tomorrow.

Buck, Schrade, Camillus, CASE, Kershaw. All but the Kershaw are USA made, and thanks to this excellent community, I now know more about these guys. :D About $175 for all of them. The CASE knives were retail. Brand new.
