Flea Market Survival Haul

Well, I wasn't expecting to find anything much and didn't take a lot of cash but not having cash always assures one of finding all kinds of stuff. With that "no cash" mentality, I found a ton of stuff I had to pass on until I got back to the car and found some "extra" cash in my pants (gotta love cargo pants).

The axe I have been looking for for ages - heavy, thick, no edge pitting and the poll in decent shape PLUS the exact handle I wanted, NEW and expertly hafted!! I use a maul to split with but sometimes it's a bit much so, this $7 "find" made my day! It got better; $50 for a Blackhawk, 3-day assault pack, $4/ea for two GI canteens (not stinky) with covers, $5/ea for two GI SS canteen cups, six small sharpening stones for $3/lot, $5 for a well-made compressible stuff sack for my other poncho liner and $6 for an assortment of new, "PSK-worthy" Tupperware!! I found some other stuff but it was non-survival-related.

Overall, not a bad haul considering these are all items I have been looking for and paid no shipping and no sales tax. OK, so I spent $6 on gas and $9.98 for lunch but it was also a "date" with my lovely wife so I still did quiute well overall.

Geez, man! I gotta find flea markets like that near me!! That's a great haul of stuff. I love finding gear on the cheap.

Dang bro, nice haul! A date, and you scored some gear. Awesome. Who makes the axe, for 7 bucks, thats a steal! Nice pack too, those blackhawks are sweet.

That is the best flea market ever. And you took your wife. Two birds with one . . . um, . . . axe. Great haul, have fun sorting and playing.

looks like a great haul.

i agree on the stones and axe, great deals!

sounds like a fun day.

Outstanding haul Jeff. I never find anything at fleemarkets. I am going to have to start leaving my money in the car or something.

It always fun to find things you want at an awesome price. The part i enjoyed reading the most though was "date" and "lovely". That's sooo romantic. You have a very sweet husband Mrs H and talented too.

Was this the giant flea market in the Lisbon, Ohio area was it? I hit it a week ago yesterday and scored a GI Therm-a-rest (no leaks!) for $5.00, a SS canteen cup for $1.00, and a couple of those OD plastic boxes that the chemical decon supplies come in (very waterproof). Also got some nice wet/dry for sharpening. Gotta' love them fleas.

Yes what flea market was this? :D

OOPS! Sorry! Little ol' Tiffin Flea Market, in Tiffin, of course - County Seat of Seneca County. Today, it was just booming. My wife was tickled - she got a bag full of Tupperware.

The axe's markings are barely legible - something like "Wood Slasher Steel Works." I even spit on it and rubbed it in at the flea market and couldn't make it out well even in the bright sunlight. Not quite the find as Scott Gossman's Keen Kutter but it's exactly what I was looking for. I put it to work splitting wood for the camp fire we've been sitting around for the paste several hours.:D

Hey, anybody know if I can throw that Blackhawk in the wash machine? Couldn't find "care instructions" on their site.

I'd be up for that!

An Ohio gathering would be cool.

Maybe something like Mohican State Park...I'm open for suggestions...

Hmmm, down in southern ohio there is about 600 acres that my family hunts on that is more then open for use.
Atv trails, a cabin with electricity and beer, a fire pit, and a creek.
Not all that woodsy but practice wilderness survival by day and chat with the WW2 vet owner of the property near the fire by night.
