Well there are all sorts of situations like this that don't call for weapons. If your kid gets a shoelace (yeah I know about Velcro) caught in an escalator or there is some other critical situation that leaves you needing to cut something then a knife is the only way to go. If your daily travels take you to places where chances of having to cut a rope in an emergency then a fixed blade is a pretty good call.
