Flippers / folders under $20?

Knifecenter has the Kershaw Oso-Sweet for 19.95. Assisted opener, removable pocket clip. Might fit you needs.
Also check around for various Rough Rider and Marbles folders; both traditional and modern thumbstud/linerlocks.

Interesting thread. If you pick up a flipper that costs less than $20 thast you actually like, please let us know.

In the meantime, the best folder under $20 for when you need an actual tool to cut something would be an Opinel.

Massdrop currently has a nice looking kershaw for 11 bucks... if you are looking for colorful theres some on amazon called firebird that come in different color g10 with glow in the dark stripes and blue hardware. Theres even one with steel bearings that flips really smoothly. F7511 was the model. good luck with your search and enjoy whatever it is you decide to get. Knives are great tools and can also be fun and addicting :)

View attachment 718048 It's hard to find a good flipper for $20. I'd suggest spending a little more and picking up a Kershaw that appeals to you. I really liked the Kershaw/Al Mar AM3 which can be found for less than $30. The Al Mar style translates well into clipless carry also.

The Kershaw Strobe is the best one I've found at the $20 mark. Milled out handles, kvt bearing washers, 3.3" 8cr blade. Smooth opening and closing, and still locks up in the same spot with no play since i got it. I use it as my dedicated work knife.

Stay away from cheap gas station / auto parts store / hardware store knives such as

Smith & Wesson
Stith
Snap On
Z Hunter
Gerber
Schrade

Avoid any knife made by a tool maker or knife maker.

As an alternative you would be much better off with an Opinel folder and use the left over cash for a Philly steak and cheese

You might consider a Kershaw 1306BW Filter. I just picked up one of these at Walmart for $13.97 while on vacation in Colorado - I couldn't easily bring a knife from home through airport security, so I decided to just pick up a cheap folder at Walmart on the way to the state park where I'm staying. Cheapness aside, I've been impressed with this knife and plan to mail it home to myself when the trip is over. I've used it mostly for opening food packaging and food prep (no serious bushcraft), but it has performed very well for me.

Things I like about it: 3.25" blade (legal for Colorado carry); scales fit my hand well; deep carry clip (removable); smooth assisted flipping action; reasonably sharp out of the box; attractive design; solid lockup with no lock stick; zero blade play in any direction.

Things I don't like: non-premium 3Cr13 steel; pocket clip holes for tip-down carry only; re-curve blade; uneven edge grind (but not horrible); not much texture on scales so not very grippy; relatively heavy at 5 oz. (but hey, what do you expect for $14? :-) )
