Flying to San Diego

I've carried all over California..never a problem (non-auto).
There are more armed people out here than most think. Last check we had more gun owners than any other State.

More people, more guns maybe. But having a gun locked in the closet out of sight of the brown shirts doesn't make them armed, and certainly not walking-around-armed. Knives maybe.

Right. Well, more of us "armed" cali folks are planning on getting the hell out of here one day. That you can count on.
I've never been a Californian at heart..just saying. Most of my family is where you are.

I don't know if this helps or not. The video is from 2013 and I don't know if the laws have changed. According to the video CA considers scissors in the same category as stilletos.

Don't here this a lot from people my age. Any time you mention cali to a 20-30 year old they just light up. They always wish they could live there.

I can't wait to hit San Diego, but I don't think I have an interest to live in Cali. Maybe this trip will change my mind, guess you never know.

I think I might take down my Sebbie and store all the parts in different spots of my checked luggage (my theft deterrent).

Don't get me wrong, there are some areas of California that are magnificently beautiful. Our State's politics and the Hollywood crowd IMO have destroyed what good is left.
It's pretty sad when KnifeRights or the NRA don't have a chance at changing anything here. Oh well.

SoCal, I don't think KR has given up on California, per se. I think what they are doing is getting the lower hanging fruit first. After that, THEN they will start charging the windmills of California and the east coast.

They currently have a lot of time and money tied up in suing NYC over their absurd interpretation of State knife laws, in addition to the work they have been doing in Texas, Georgia, Michigan and Colorado and also DC on getting the Interstate Switchblade Act repealed. Doug and Todd can only be so many places at once.

KR is fighting the good fight, so we all need to join up. People who are members in California aren't specifically helping anything change RIGHT NOW there, but their membership fees have been helping the states/DC I mentioned, as well as a few others.

Why will I still be sending money to KR even though there isn't much left to do in Texas, really, now that illegal knives are going away (if the Governor doesn't veto the bill in the next 11 days),

Well, first we will still have the made "restricted knife" designation to whittle at, but it is trivial compared to what has been done so far.

But secondly, and probably more importantly, I will be sending money every year just so KR can keep working towards freeing up other states, including California, which is, practically speaking, probably at the end of the list.

I was born and raised there, spent nearly 40 years. It was a great place to be up until the 90's. Smart folks fell asleep at the switch while the libs gave the house away. Oh well- plenty of freedom-loving states elsewhere. It's amazing to live somewhere you can carry whatever you want- edged or loaded. I wish you luck and encouragement.

That's why I love it here in Oklahoma. I've carried a glock for over 5 years now. It's been weird leaving home without it; preparing myself. Might leave the house with just an SAK next week. That'll be a shock to the system.

Ha. Thanks all.
We want to try to pay this house off then in 10 or so, get out.
We love N. Az (go there often) also SD, UT, and WY. We want to be here in the West we think.

I've lived in San Diego for the past 47+ years, I've been openly carrying folders and fixed blades throughout San Diego county, and despite all of the interactions I've had with law enforcement, and all the cops who have seen me openly carrying knives, not one has ever hassled me about my knives, and I'm a raggedy looking biker.

San Diego follows California state law when it comes to knives. It is perfectly legal to carry any size of folding knife, openly or concealed in San Diego (with the exception of switchblades and butterfly knives with blades 2" or longer).

Quick little story- I was recently pulled over by a pair of cops. The reason given was that my license plate was not properly mounted on my bike. I was openly (and legally) carrying a 10" fixed blade on my belt. Although the senior officer took possession of the knife during the stop, he had no problem with it, or with me carrying it, in fact he even confirmed that it was legal for me to carry it. After checking me in his computer, he let me off with a warning about my plate (I agreed to fix it), and I was on my way, with my knife.

Side note to that story, after he took possession of the fixed blade he asked me if I was carrying any other weapons. I said "no", but that I was also carrying a pocket knife. He had no interest whatsoever in the pocket knife.

^ "Only problem you will have is getting back on the plane. San Diego is about as good as it gets!!!! My Daughter just moved to Oceanside a month ago and says she feels like she is on Vacation.
Great weather, great food and great beaches."

^ I lived in O-side for 3 years before moving down here to Carlsbad for the past 5.
I have spent quite a bit of time up in the high country of North Central Idaho over the past 8 years, but precisely because of what you wrote in your last sentence (the only thing I would add- is our awesome first rate surf locations), makes it very difficult for me to ever leave this place.

There are so many remote, picturesque locations here in California. I spent a lot of my youth living/growing up in San Luis Obispo, Monterey (Big Sur) and Santa Cruz Counties...some of the most beautiful Coastline on Planet Earth. I'm heading up to Cayucos, CA for a week at the end of this month for a family get together...and I'm taking quite a few of my knives and firearms along for the trip.

FWIW: I pretty much carry whatever I feel like carrying. I've never had a problem.[/QUOTE]

Oh, I do too ;)

My advice is to keep it concealed out of public view. You never know when you're going to run into some Officer who truly believes citizens should not have weapons. Every Dept. has one........ I really don't like getting stopped and playing "20 Questions" with those guys for any reason.

I've never had any problems carrying whatever clipped folder I want in San Diego or CA in general. I really don't understand why so many people from other states think that CA is so knife-restrictive. Knife laws are a lot better in this state than in a LOT of other places in this country. Sure, I think the cities of L.A., San Francisco and maybe Sacramento have 3" blade length limits, but I've carried whatever folder I've wanted pretty much everywhere in CA. I've never been stopped or questioned about my knives by any police officers. Then again, I'm pretty low key anyway.

Like anywhere else, don't try to carry knives into theme parks, sporting events, gov't buildings, concerts, etc. That's just common sense.

San Diego is pretty darned good regarding knife carry. BTW, I was born here...one of the few people I know who is a born and bred Californian. Has anyone here ever considered that a lot of the "knife-and-weapon-hating Californians" might actually more likely be transplants from out of state?

Just remember, no concealed fixed blades of any size...or scissors...or knitting needles.

+1

Maybe this isn't knife related, but to take the point you made just a little further, for some "out of State" perspective here in SoCal:

I surf at a fairly popular surf break in the North County. Just about everyone out in the lineup, is really cool and laid back (as you would expect people out in the water enjoying such an awesome activity with nature- to be)...except for this one agro, incessant whining, jackass. It turns out that guy moved out here from New Jersey (nothing personal- just a fact where he's from) & brought a trunk load of his mental problems along with him.

This guy, is in fact a very talented surfer, probably in his late 30's (although he behaves like a spoiled temper tantrum throwing petulant child). Anyway, his behavior became so sketchy and volatile, that a couple of the guys (who 10 years ago would've opened up a can of whoop ass on this punk) found pictures that he had posted of himself on the Surfline website for that particular surf break. They photocopied & posted throughout the parking area, about a 50 flyer's of a picture with this guy surfing, along with a statement which read:

If you happen to see this "KOOK," please call: 1 800-GET LOST!

It was amazing, just how quickly this guy STFU after this incident. :D

Yes indeed James, we're a dying breed out here.:cool:
