Folder for SD?

I tend to prefer Benchmade knives and would have recommended the BM 710. I also would have recommended the BM 806D2 but they're out of production. The Spyderco Endura/Delica are also good knives though and they will be lighter that the BM 710.

One comment though is that I would not have gotten the Wave version. The standard blade design is just fine; you should be able to deploy it in less than a second without the Wave feature. Thinking about the situation should take more time than knife deployment.

Your best defense is your legs. RUN! A knife is a last resort if you are cornered and have nothing else IMO.

After a failed order through Island Tactical, I'm trying again for the Delica Wave through gpknives. I figure if the guy is active on bladeforums, that'll give me a better shot at actually receiving the product! A review will follow.

For myself, in the safety of my living room, I can deploy a hole-opener insanely fast. Here's an exercise I suggest people try with partners, it's the one that convinced me to go with a wave.

Have the bad guy approach you with a common street ruse ("you have the time?" "are you looking at me ***hole?"), then suddenly attack you. Engage him empty-hand and make time and space to draw your knife. Now, as he's rushing at you full speed, deploy your knife. To spice things up, make the rule here that if you don't get your knife opened and striking, he can thump you in the chest. What I'm going for here is some simulation of a real assault: you're tired from the initial engagement, you've made just enough space to draw, and now your partner is putting heavy pressure on you by charging you, and you *know* he's gets a free pop on you if you don't get that knife out.

I don't know anyone who has done this drills and not walked away with an appreciation of the wave. When my 230+ pound buddy is charging me from 5 feet away, suddenly getting my thumb on the opener isn't so easy anymore.

That's not to say that you aren't cool enough to do it, ras. Just saying that for the vast majority of people, they'll find that when their hearts are thumping and they're a bit scared and they know some pain is coming, their thumb hole/disk/stud opening skills deteriorate a bunch. I wish I was cool-headed enough that it didn't happen to me, but it did.

A Serrada man might carry a CS X2 Voyager in the summer, and a Buck/Strider 880 T in the winter.
