Hey all,
Today I did some looking for a knife that is lightweight, thin, and small.
I checked out the kershaw leek (oops, i meant chive!) & scallion.. wasn't terribly impressed, but I suppose they'd work.
This knife is for wear with gym shorts or similar around the house, when my 3+'' folders are just too big & heavy.
Lets hear some suggestions, try to keep the budget under $50 as this wont be a heavy use knife or even an EDC..

The Benchmade 530. I never even feel it when it's in my pocket. Very functional too.

Any SS spyderco or Byrd is my choice. My SS police is my go to blade when I want something that seems tiny closed and huge open. They are also very comfortable when wearing fitted pants because they are so slim.

Bokerplus Subcomfolder or Trance, Spyderco S / FRN Dragonfly, Byrd FRN Robin are some choices....

Don't know about your gym shorts Kemosabe, but mine don't have a pocket. That means ya need a knife with a clip. About a 2 1/2" blade and either FRN or composite handle to minimize weight.

My best suggestion would be either a:
Byrd - Robin
Spyderco - Dragonfly

My recommendations

Spyderco FRN Dragonfly 1.2 ounces 2.3 inch blade.
Benchmade 530 1.88 ounces 3.25 inch blade.
Benchmade 940 3 ounces 3.4 inch blade.

Spyderco Delica 4 ZDP or Native 3 S30V both pack alot in a light package.

I'll third the Subcom. Great quality, super compact, and can be had for under $30 if you know where to look. I've been edc-ing one for going on a year now, and have nothing but praise for it.

thanks guys, I figured this would get some good responses.
I'll look through the listed options, keep new suggestions coming too!

Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter (thin, light, and sharp) $20
Boker Trance (thin, strong frame lock, sharp) $22
Boker Subcom (short stout blade < 2") $22
Spyderco Native (S30V, thin, light, sharp) $40

Hard to beat a Spyderco light weight Native or a Delica for that, thin and light.

Gerber made a LST with a detachable plastic clip that would be another good one, if they still make it.

Spyderco Ladybug is great when you want an "edge" more than a "knife". So small its almost gone through the wash a couple times.

All of those suggestions were excellent, but how come nobody defended the Kershaw Leek. It's light, slim, dependable, and razor-sharp? I would definitely suggest you take a second look at it, especially the G10 handled version with the S30V blade. I use it for the exact same thing you are looking for. When I'm wearing jeans, my larger folders are fine, no prob. But when your bumming around in shorts, doing yardwork or running errands, you cant have that much knife hanging off your hip, and that's when I clip on the leek. I never even notice it's there and it takes care of any cutting need I come across in that situation. Happy shopping, but I just had to throw in a little defense for the Kershaw.

Cheers,
Jon:)

WHOOPS, there was NOT supposed to be a question mark after my description of the Leek. It is all of those things, no question!!!

Sorry bout that. :o
