Folder or Fixed?

I carry mostly folders because they scare people less and my scout troop wont let me use fixed blades, so i get more out of my folders per dollar. Plus a nice slippie like a GEC just looks better than most fixed blades.

I always have a folder in my pocket. I also carry a fixed blade whenever I can. If I could EDC both I would.

Folders, for ease of carry. Although, at times, I'll shove a little FB between my belt and pants.

All my knifes (outside the kitchen) are folders. I look at fixed blades but every time I think I am going to buy one I end up balking. I think the biggest thing I balk over is I never see myself carrying a fixed blade. I know I will never carry some of my folders, but I justify their purchase by thinking "I have the option to carry them." which is just total BS.

if i could i would have a fixed blade on my belt as my edc, but since i can't, except maybe in the wild, i carry folders
that said, i like both, and always have a folder in my pocket or IWB, a soldier SAK most of the time
and yes, I am looking to get that Izula ...

I am firmly a part of the folder crowd, although I do have a small fixed blade. Ever since my first Buck 110, I have been spoiled by the ease of carry of a folder. In addition, there are so many variations that you can never be bored.

The only folders I carry are a Cold Steel VI Ti-Lite,and a Byrd Cara Cara. The rest are fixed, 99% of the time. Besides, fixed blades are faster than autos.

I am definitely a folder guy, since I can't figure out a way to carry a fixed blade, as I would want it to be very discreet, and hate having anything attached to my belt (cell phone, keys, etc.). A folder clipped to my pocket doesn't bother me in the least, for some reason.

Depends on what I'm doing. For daily carry I take my folder (Which really isn't a folder it's a Bradley Mayhem Balisong). I find it to be the best compromise between fixed blade and folder. But anytime I need something of great streangth I take a fixed blade along.

Folders for edc'ing, and I do like a fixed blade or two for the house and/or camping and hiking. I collected a few handguns once upon a time, but could only enjoy them in the privacy of my house, or the range if I was out shooting. I found that with knives I could take them with me and have them on my person pretty much all the time. This was about 15/20 years ago and at the beginning of the "Tactical Folder" frenzy. Can you say, I like those TF's? I can!:):D

Up until recently, I've been strictly a folder guy and usually EDC at least 2 or 3. But, with the purchase of my RC-3 I find that I really like EDC'ing a fixed blade when possible. The RC-3 just drops into my front pocket and rides very neatly and comfortably there until needed. I also just picked up a small (2.5" blade) FB over in the Maker's section from PML Knives. Since Saturday, it has been riding in my BRP and has been my primary EDC with a Military riding in FRP as backup. I'm kinda diggin' the whole small-FB-for-EDC thing more and more!

EDC'ing a fixed just doesn't really happen in modern life, especially if you have a job in the public eye 40 hours a week.

Fixed blades do offer strength, but only for a very few applications. A knife cuts, and in modern life, their are few things a 6 inch blade does that a 3 1/2" blade can't touch.

Folders are a lot more prone to utilize superior technical materials, treatments and methods of construction. There's not much real life call for it, but you can buy a lot more titanium framelocks with high speed steel blades than titanium fixed blades with high speed grips.

If your new coworker wants to show off his old Schrade clip lock and asks to see your Benchmade Vex, it doesn't rate a second look from passersby. Try that with a Rat-7 and a Randall #14.

Folders are where it's at daily.

Just to clarify, my original question wasn't asking which style (folder or fixed) is better suited for a EDC. It was a question about which style are you most attracted to. Most of the time, I EDC a SAK, but my love is for fixed blade knives and that's where I spend more money. ;)

I would love to be able to carry around a fixed blade. I only own a couple, and carry none of them because of visibility reasons. I always have a folder or two on me. Easier to be able to pull it out when needed, rather than having to wear a FB on belt or carry a 6-8" knife (overall) in my pocket.
