Folder or Fixed?

My first love was folders (and I still like them alot) but lately all my moolah has been going into the pockets of some of our fine resident fixed blade makers. I guess my answer would have to be: The small pocketable fixed blade has locked its tracter beam on me.

I normally like fixed blades. But when it`s cold and rainy, my coat covers it, and it becomes a conceled weapon. A NO NO here in California.

fixed blade. I cant seem to really get into folders. My izula fits nicely in my back or side pocket and i just recieved an urban tank from jk knives thats on my side as we speak. They are much easier to use than folders for me at least

I have twice as many folders as I do fixed blade, so I guess technically I'm a folder guy. If I could carry a fixed blade for an EDC, I would most certainly be a fixed blade guy:)

To look at a knife, I generally enjoy a classic slip-joint folder. For everyday use, I prefer a multi-tool. When I am in the woods, I prefer a fixed blade.

Folder or fixed you say? My answer is "yes!" :D

I EDC a pocket fixed blade, locking folder, and slipjoint every day. ;)

I use a folder on a daily basis. I buy a sh-tload of fixed blades and daydream about using them on a daily basis. :)

I'm with FortyTwoBlades; Yes. However, I lean heavily to fixed blades. It has taken a while to figure out the best way to carry them, especially when dressed for work; coat and tie. And, wearing suspenders, makes it a bit more difficult.

I carry my FBs in a pocket sheath in my right rear pants pocket. Most of the time that is a Blind Horse patch or Workcliffe. I also carry one of Michael Morris' Profiles. There simply isn't anything I need done that those blades can't do, and they are completly out of sight until needed.

If the weather requires me to bundle up, the coat pocket might see anything from a Trance, to a Leek, to an Al Mar Falcon.

Despite folders being easy to transport and mostly used, I love fixed knives. There's just something about them...

They both have their place. I carry a folder in my pocket & I have folder & fixed blade knives for hunting & outdoor use.

I like folders and fixed blades. Don't really like one more than the other.

For the woods, it is definately a Fixed blade preference, for EDC, I prefer a folder.

Depends on the task at hand for what I want to use.

At work, I have to carry a folder. Fixed blade knives cause safety issues for us.

One of the Buck family members posted something that made sense to me. Folders if you are mostly just carrying with the need to cut every now and then, and fixed if you are going to be cutting over extended periods of time. For most of us that means folders are the better option. However, if you are processing fish or game (deer) all day, or something like that, you would want a fixed blade for sure.

i agree with silverdagger i carry my buck 110 on a daliy basis and if i am going to be on a camping or a motorcycle ride i have my 110 and my alpha hunter the only time i don't have these in at church and then i have my buck 309 in pocket

For people with fixed blade edc's along the lines of the Izula or Becker Necker...

Is there any kind of sheath available that is similar to the "clip sheath" that Kershaw includes with its Centofante folder? I mean one that clips to the pocket like a clipped folder, but would allow all of the knife (or all but the very tip of the handle, similar to most folders) to remain "in the pocket?" This could allow for one-hand draw, rather than taking the sheathed knife out of pocket and then using two hands to unsheath it. I'm curious...

I prefer fixed blades. I carry IWB and feel pretty comfortable carrying anywhere. At the grocery store, at work, outside playing frisbee golf, I carry everywhere. Now, keep in mind, I don't shove a 9" blade in my pants or anything. I keep it under 4" blade per Texas law, and no double edge.

On my first day of work I signed all the paperwork and somewhere in there it mentioned "no weapons". I asked my boss if this included pocket knives and he said, "Not really, as long as it's legal in Texas you can carry it at work. Just use some common sense, and don't show it to everyone". Made my day.

I like fixed blades, but I generally carry a folder or two daily. My typical EDCs are a SAK Adventurer and a SOG Mini Vulcan, both folders. I am experimenting with the CRKT Ringed Razel as a inside the pocket EDC at the moment.

I'll always take a fixed blade unless I'm going somewhere that I can't.

The only place that is, is work. They don't care how big your knife is, so long as it's a folder, but consider a fixed blade to cross into "weapon" territory.

Anywhere else, it's a fixed blade.
