Folder Reccomendations, under 200.00

I realize at this point in the thread what I'm going to say is almost off-topic ;), but here goes... have you considered a traditional folder? (The previously mentioned SAKs get lumped with trads but they're a different breed.) Knives from GEC, Buck and Queen have an appeal that for many jibes with why we carry, and are just plain nice to look. They tend to be more accepted by the risk-adverse in my experience too. And at your price-point you could really get a nice old trad or a new neo-trad. One other point is the variety trads offer. Just look at the multiple patterns on the GEC website. For this reason I cannot make a recommendation.

You'd be better served by spending a little time just perusing one or more of the big online retailers' websites. They all have search features that allow you narrow by size, price, steel, and much more. Try Bladehq, knifecenter, gpknives, usamadeblades...

Spyderco Domino or Sage 1, 3 or 5.You can find Them for under $200.00 All beautiful also Caly 3 or 3.5 Carbon Fiber. There are so many for under $200.00 You can also go to Blade HQ Or any of the big guys and put in your parameters. There will be alot of choices but for a classy low key knife Spyderco rocks.

I like this suggestion, I'll add the manix2 cruwear cf sprint (165), a knifeworks exclusive. If any of the above mentioned knives catch your fancy this one fits in the same group.

ZT0450 or ZT0808 I think would fit your needs nicely!

KW exclusive Ritter mini-grip or standard griptilian. M390, great cutting geometry, easily upgradable handle. Prices are in $130 range.

Perhaps keep your fixed blade for those dire situations but don't pull it out at work. Pick up a nice GEC traditional to keep your boss happy. You'll surely love it too. Other than that I found my Spyderco Gayle Bradley a great work knife, only thing is M4 isn't stainless but I never had an issue with corrosion. Took a nice patina with use and has always been just fine. My thought is if a fixed blade is too scary for your boss, a flipper is likely to be worse. The GB or GB2 can be flicked open for fun or outside of work but controlled opening is easy.

Look at the Emerson CQC-7. I see that you are kind of interested in something waved so you might as well go straight to the source.
The 7 is a great knife that is 100% made in America. The chisel grind is top notch that cuts with the best of them and is designed to be easily sharpened whether in the field or the boardroom. The size is non-threatening to people and still big enough to handle most cutting chores. And then you have the wave feature, I can not praise this feature enough. The wave feature allows the blade to be deployed pretty darn fast for any self defense scenarios.

I have Emersons, I like Emersons.

For 189 though you can an "Emerson" that is better IMO than any Emerson--ZT0620CF.

Guys, what's not to like about this? Trust me it will start some conversations (and converts)

I carry a Gayle Bradley 2 and it's about as close to a lightsaber as you can get in a production knife. Also CPM M4 is pretty amazing steel but isn't going to be such a shock from sharpening an esee. That said it's not 1095. The knife is also pretty enough that it doesn't scream tactical and can be opened in polite company. It also has to be one of the best valued blades out there right now.

If I am really worried about looks I carry a benchmade 940. It just looks smaller than what it is and is a classic for a reason. Knifeworks has their exclusive version with cpm 20cv with is basically m390 if you want a fancy steel.or get a 940-1 though that will go over $200. I would recommend buying some diamond stones though or its not going to seem like much of a super steel.

I also had a ZTE 0770 in elmax that would fill the role pretty well.

If you just want big tactical blades the list is huge and most will give your esse a run for its money. I have a couple of benchmade contegos that were great working in welding shops out west but I don't feel comfortable carrying in the NYC area much less in office dealing with a client.

If self defense is only in "dire extreme" the Delica is a really good choice.
I had kind of the same dilemma
I took a Zome version from which I removed the pocket clip and In just carry it in my pocket
Very good cutter for office tasks but IMO the blade is too thin for self defense

The Sage series will be almost as discrete but will be more sturdy for SD

If you prefer larger blades the paramilitary 2 is very good but it has a bit of a tactical look to it than may afraid some collègues, at least it happens to me
I think a large griptilian will be more acceptable
Small griptilians and para 3 may also be options

ZT0450 and ZT0808 are good small flippers than match your prerequisite in size and usage but maybe flippers may be a little bit "surprising"

Finally if you want to have a self defense blade, look at the Emersons
Some have small blades and combine wave and manual opening which is cool when you want to open them in front of non-knife people

To recommend a specific folder would be difficult in todays market the variety is too vast. However, i could recommend companies instead and you just pick a specific model. If i were you i would first pick a brand with reputable warranty.

If you think US made and great warranty i cannot think of anything other than Benchmade. Most of their folders are under $200 and their warranty service is second to none. Kershaw/ZT has just as good warranty service but Kershaw specifically is more of value folders and lots of assisted and low quality blade steels. ZT great quality peoducts and warranty service. Spyderco has a huge variety as well and very good products, however from my personal experience their warranty service is not the best. Have had several issues.

The Spyderco Sage 5 has a 3 inch blade and doesn't look as threatening as some of the more tactical knives. The paramilitary 3 is also a similar size but might be hard to find since it's new.
