Folder, what lube do you use?

Ballistol works fine on food prep blades, after about half an hour the alcohol and scent evaporate completely, and it becomes oderless and tasteless. Due to the water miscible thing I stopped using it for long term storage though, after finding two hermetically sealed cans where the inside had rusted turning the ballistol an opaque red color :barf: I'm not sure if that's due to the water solubility (which goes away once the alcohol evaporates) but I didn't want to risk it.

These days I use Weaponshield CLP for all my guns and non-food prep knives, for kitchen knives I use either no oil and just keep them clean or put a light coat of camellia flower oil on for storage.
I've used ballistol for gun cleaning and I didn't mind the smell at all. The package says non toxic, and supposedly it's even used as a mild antiseptic in germany. I wouldn't drink any, but the company claims it's food safe. They have a website, but I can't find it now.

imho (and i own just about all mentioned) ...

break-free clp is widely available and overall the best (including firearms). very good corrosion prevention.

eezox is harder to find but absolutely the best for corrosion prevention.

militec offers zero corrosion prevention, from my experience, but seems to lubricate well.

ballistol offers moderate prevention, but i don't like it for firearms. under high heat it becomes very thick and gooey.

make sure to use all of them sparingly, too thick a coat can cause problems.

Agreed. When I dissasemble a knife for cleaning I paint my lube on with a saturated Q-Tip. For touch up lubing I use a needle applicator. Oh, and Militec-1 here . . .

Yeah some people like the smell, some folks think it's the worst thing on earth. I got used to it after a while, but the whole rusty ballistol in a sealed can thing turned me off. I did taste some fresh ballistol though, just a drop on the tongue, it's wierd, but not bad. Certainly not something I'd want more than a drop of in my mouth though.

I used to use White Lightning wax lube, drys after a couple of minutes and is pretty slick but I havn't seen it around for a long time so now I use Break free as it is easy to find

I used to use CLP but have switched to something called Weapons Shield. I like it better. Makes things super smooth.

Just a drop of WD-40. I've been using that oil successfully for years.
WD-40 is not a lube. The WD stands for water displacement. It removes water and does a great job but I would'nt recommend it for lube. I use Hoppes, 3 & 1, and CRK's lube (only for frame locks). I use very little of these lubes.
