Folder with high-riding pocket clip

One of my favorite factory low riders is my ZT0500 MUDD. This is a larger knife with a 3.75" blade and ~5.0" oal. Specs say weight is 4.8 ounces, but closer to 6.8 ounces in reality. The clip though puts the entire knife inside your pocket with only a thin clip signature that is very pen like in appearance. It has the clip and the blade length, just a bit obese, but, hey as the songster says, two out of three ain't bad!

That would be my choice also. Very cool knife that also just so happens to have the clip style you are looking for

@Sep

If you have so many stuff in your pocket, forget about military & dejavoo.
Used to carry both of them for some time - perfect, large & lighweight (IMHO) cutters with decent materials.
Although they are taking too much space in pocket, no matter how deep they are hangin' on the clip :grumpy:

What I mean - take a look at the height (profile) of the closed knife carefully.

My reccomendation for sheepie-friendly-&-hard-to-notice-while-carried-knife:
BM 940
Blade is slightly shorter than in Millie or 740, but with it's low profile it stays in pocket almost unnoticed ;)

Edit:
Link for quite nice clip gallery :)

Why 4" if not for defensive reasons? Well, simply because I can. Until recently I lived in places with length restriction. Now that I live in a knife-friendly state, I might as well take advantage of it.

I must live in an area where 1) adults aren't harrassed about knives, or 2) the police have better things to do.

I've been carrying a 3 1/2" + knife for decades in jurisdictions that require 3" max. I also was raised at a time when schoolboys took knives to school and had firearms in their car to hunt with. I well understand a few have diligently worked hard to oppress those rights.

Like I said, choose the knife first. The greatest clip in the world won't improve a bad knife one bit.

I'm grateful and impressed. Good recommendations all.

Boker Direkt:
Good knife that I have actually considered in the past. Blade length is 3 5/8 ", 4.2 Oz is good, blade steel 440C, and $38 online price (good value!). It rides pretty low for tipdown carry, but not quite invisible. Thoughts: It's a good value folder from a good company. If I can't find anything better, I might get it. Heck, at that price I might get it regardless.:D

Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert:
It looks like a dagger and named after a very famous one to boot. Blade length 3.79", weight is 4.2 Oz, 154CM steel and priced at $96. Top of the clip is flush with the edge (pivot side). Thoughts: While the clip position is perfect, it's too much of a dagger for me.

Benchmade 740 Dejavoo:
Good design by a great designer. Blade length 3.95", 4.1 Oz weight, made of S30V and it costs $101. Top of clip is almost flush with pivot end, good enough. Thoughts: I'm concerned about reviews saying this knife tend to have weak liner lock, and it has no detent in closed position. I'm seriously considering it, but it's not gonna be my first pick.

Spyderco Calypso 3:
Classic design, the essential Spyderco. Blade length 3" (too short), it weighs 3 Oz, made of VG-10 and costs $94. Top of wire clip is almost flush with the folded point end (tip up carry), which is good enough. Thoughts: There's no doubt that this is a great folder, it's just too short for my purpose this time.

Al Mar SERE 2000:
Another design that's been around for a long time. Blade length 3.6", 6 Oz weight (heavy), VG-10 steel and costs $140. Top of clip is actually higher than the pivot end, better than perfect. Thoughts: It's heavier than what I'm prepared to carry, and $140 seems overpriced for VG-10.

Buck Vantage Pro:
New product from an old, reputable company. Blade length is 3.25", weights at 4 Oz, blade is S30V(!) and priced at $50(!!). Top of clip is flush with point end. Thoughts: It's a lot of knife for the price and I love the idea of Paul Bos heat treatment on S30V, but it's a bit short for this purpose. It's not first choice, but again I might buy it in addition to my 4 incher :D.

Zero Tolerance 0500:
Award winning knife. Blade length is 3.75", official weight 4.9 Oz (actual 6.8 Oz according to cutter17), 154CM steel, and the price is $144. Clip is bayonet style that's higher than the handle, better than perfect. Thoughts: This is the strongest contender so far. It's a bit pricey and it might turn out to be too heavy, but it comes with many features (hawk-lock, sealed pivot, DLC coating and G10) and I trust Kershaw quality.

@amper124, excellent site with lots of pics of clips dude! Just what I need.

Keep 'em coming folks, much appreciated.

I'm already taking many, many risks in life. Personally I don't think half an inch of steel is worth the risk of going to jail and lose a job, however small the probability is. If I got into a problem on the street and cops got involved, it's complicated enough for me without an illegal knife. An illegal knife can turn a "his word against mine" problem into "bad guy with illegal knife harassing an innocent".

I agree that a perfect clip on an iffy knife doesn't make sense, that's why I haven't bought a SOG already. But, sometimes I can have the cake and eat it too, because there must be a good knife out there with the perfect clip.

Check out the browning ice storm it rides very low, VG 10 steel. I've bought 5 in the last 3 months. blade is not as long as you wanted but it's very nice piece at around 30$. they are discontinued but still can be found. I was told they were made by mcusta for browning.

I have been carrying an Al Mar Mini SERE for a while now. You will not be disapointed with it!

Hi sep. Glad to see you are considering this one. I think it is a great knife with a lot of ungimmicky features. As far as the weight goes, I have weighed it on two seperate scales and got 6.6 ounces on one and 6.9 ounces on the other, so average was 6.75, rounded up to 6.8 ounces!:) The only site I have seen it speced at 6.8 ounces is www.truenorthknives.com, but watch out as that site is addicting!!:D:D:D

Funnily enough I just looked at Browning Ice Storm yesterday, and it is a great deal at $30. If only it comes it black...

I looked at the Al Mar SERE 2000 (not the mini version), and although the blade length is ok, it's kinda heavy.

I stumbled upon Benchmade Torrent, and so far I'm impressed. Anybody has it?

Man, that's almost 7 Oz. If only it truly is 4.9 Oz as advertised...:(

The Kershaw OD-1 on the bottom has the option for a low profile. I switched mine as soon as I got it. The ZT 0350 (Top) is pretty low, not as much as the OD-1. But the ZT is Wide!

The 0500 has everything you need....but it is pretty big.

I personally cannot really tell the difference of a few ounces + or -, but I am pretty huge too.

After much consideration, I'm gonna go with Spyderco Police and modify the clip later. Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.
