Folders: Drop shutty or controlled descent?

Some people seem to be conflating knives with blade that can shut down quickly, like an Axis lock when the tension on the lockbar and tang is relieved, and the "drop shutty" knives that people tend to talk about. The drop shutty effect will typically drop down unassisted, but slowly and smoothly. Even if those knives touch your hand, the risk is pretty minimal, and you should be closing any folder with safe technique either way. A large blade with an Axis lock is going to have more risk than a drop shutty frame lock from CKF. But people don't typically call Benchmade drop shutty because they won't close on their own if you let go of the lockbar

So you don't clear your fingers from the path of the blade when you close folders? Have you spent a bunch of time with "drop shutty" knives and found yourself getting cut up a lot? This is a non-issue for people with these knives

If it's not a 60's era Impala...well...it's just not really an Impala anymore.
This is truth. My Dad had a ‘66 Impala hardtop coupe with the 396. He tried to teach my Mom to drive in it and it scared her so much that she never learned to drive! 😲😆 My brother and I survived the ‘80s partly because he sold it before we learned to drive! 🤣

Really depends on the knife.. really don’t put much importance on the term.
I think it’s more of a reviewer fad.

Haven’t seen someone say their knife is drop shutty and I was all …. Man I need that !
