Folders in College?

Im in my fourth year at the University of Toronto and I really searched to see if knives were forbidden, I came up with nothing. I still carry my Endura 4 clipped to my pocket, however if I am visiting a professor during office hours or anything like that I tend to drop the knife into my pocket, just to avoid the hassle.

Let's see - opening boxes, cutting string or rope, slicing fruit, slicing lunch meat or sausages, cutting a temporary patch for the slit in your bicycle tire, shaving the edge of a drawer that sticks, etc.

Many people recognize that knives are tools first, with many legitiamte uses, and are sometimes used as weapons. In some areas, the media has focussed so much on the use of knives as weapons that people who are not thinking for themselves sometimes assume that knives are only intended only for inappropriate uses.

Exactly, many people these days are very closed minded. I was telling my buddy just the other day that it's good we get old and die, because the older I get the more cs's I see coming up. Back when I was a kid my dad worked for the Electric Light Co. as a lineman. The men, including my dad, would come by the house around 2:30pm in the big line trucks and dump their beer cans from lunch in the trash barrel. Then they would go in the house to have a few beers. They would leave around 4:15 to go back to the garage. Now adays you don't see this stuff. Their bosses didn't pester them, and they knew all the cops. Now all you have is a bunch of f...ers trying to screw everybody over. When I was a kid back in the sixties, you didn't mouth off to adults, or you would get belted. We had respect for authority. Most of these kids today didn't have a real man to show them how to behave. Our society is a friggin sewer. I work outside and I see people who look like they aren't even human beings. Why has this happened? Things are truely out of control.

haha tell that to the student handbook

"Possession of any firearms, explosives, or other weapons, including, but not limited to, pistols, rifles, shotguns, hand- guns, BB guns, paint guns, knives, or dangerous chemicals on University premises"

I dont think that a school that wont let you have a paint gun would be willing to deem anything "lawful use". maybe you can convince the cops, but the school can do pretty much whatever it wants.

this has been covered.

the penal code exemption does not prohibit campuses from having and enforcing their own rules.

anyway, the exemption is generally meant for employees whose occupations require the use of knives, or students whose classes require the use of knives. it is not meant to cover personal carry.

Really weird...I just came on here to post the exact same question and found this...perfect! I carry a Gerber Paraframe II (2.5" if I remember) that is perfect for what we need. VERY low profile, one of the thinnest knives I've ever had. Had it over 2 years now, starting to wear on me now. I ran into a corner and the pocket clip bent, but other than that, scratches give it character. Check Target, $24 with a great little pair of folding scissors I keep in my backpack. I prefer to carry it clipped on my pocket, but there have been a ton of crimes on campus lately which = tons of cops...everywhere...So I've been clipping it behind my belt on my side, it sits nicely. I don't know its there until I need it. I'm always using it for this and that, never in front of people though...thats a big no no...Peeling oranges, opening packages, cutting a stray sting off clothing, my computer has a weird cover that needs to be popped of to use the ports, what do you think I'm gonna use...my nails????? And if you are ever asked, a knife is a TOOL first and foremost. Never a weapon unless you absolutely have to. As far as I understand, I am allowed to carry it. But I have a feeling that the one time a cop notices it I'm going to have to deal with a ton of crap. They are there to protect us, but that doesn't mean that they know every law inside and out. I know how to use it and when its appropriate, I'm responsible, and I don't do stupid stuff with it, so why is it such a big deal? Who knows...but as I mentioned, a ton of racial attacks lately and waaaayyyyy to many muggings in the early AM, and I'm there by 6:30 when it's just getting light. There has been at least 2 a week since school started. Gives me a small piece of mind I suppose...Anyway, if you can afford it, the $24 is definitely worth it for a great knife and scissors. Just play it cool at USC, great school, but watch the surrounding areas as mentioned before.
