Folders that could be throwers

Hello, newbie at this forum. I love knifes and anything bladed. Owner of antique katana's, tanto, waki, and some knives.

Enough with the intro. I would like to know any folders that COULD be decent throwers. Cheap folders are out of the question. I know you probably say that folders aren't mean't to be thrown. The force of impact by dropping and such will break the knife. Well, I'm looking for some kind of folders that can throw out of boredom so to speak. It doesn't beat any fixed blade throws but still would like to throw it at a tree or something. I hear about the SOG Tomcat that just might do. Not sure about the stingray one. I'm also aware that a lot of folders that won't stick when thrown.

Do you guys have some suggestion on some knives?

Throwin knives :eek::eek::eek: :D

Welcome to BF's. I think you will get more response to your question, in the General sub forum. I'm sure that one of our Mods will move your question to the correct sub forum for you shortly.

Those of us that hang out here, are a perrty laid back and old fashioned :D

You can throw pretty much any folder.
1. close it
2. hold it between your thumb and third finger with your pointer on the end.
3. chuck it
If you throw it at drywall it will stick every time!:D

welcome ryukenden if there are any folders that can be thrown repeatedly & survive i can only suggest 2 brands---cold steels with the triad lock & the ones by crusader forge. of course the balisongs are in the mix also.your question deserves an answer but i think many people would not condone throwing your folder===personally i would prefer a brick.

I've thrown my cold steel recon 1 tanto around a couple of times. kind of a clumsy ordeal though.

personally i think ill stick to throwing my sting seems a bit safer...

There is a knife throwing and throwing knives forum over in the related section. You might ask those folks if they know of a traditional knife that's good for throwing. Welcome to the traditional forum hope you enjoy it here, There are many people who have a tremendous amount of knowledge who hang out here.

I had a CCC switchblade who's spring gave out but would still lock in place. I stuck that in an old smokehouse door and really buried it. Didn't look any worse for wear. It ended it's life as a test subject for splitting 9mm "ball" ammo - successfully splitting 3 rounds and deflecting 2. Here's Fred Perrin throwing the CS American Lawman!

Cold Steel Lawman for the video above.

Another may be the BM Emerson 975 SBT. I chucked mine several times at trees and it still works just fine.

I haven't thrown folders since getting some FB throwers made for throwing

I remember seeing a video of Rick Hinderer throwing one of his XM-18 folders. It did pretty well.
I still wouldn't recommend it with ANY folder.

Thanks on some of the recommendations.I will look at some. Anymore? I like to broaden my list of folders throwers.

BTW Most folder aren't good for throwing mostly due to the blade doesn't have a wedge on the opposite end of the blade. Those won't stick; like my van hoy snap-lock.

The Spyderco FRN Delica, Endura and Native make for great throwers (my poor Delica can testify it) ;)

What did the guy in "The Magnificent Seven" have that he threw?

It would have to be a well balanced, single-blade knife probably but I agree with everyone else. If it's that nice, why are you throwing it?

Get yourself a Klein duct knife (?), not a folder but cheap and should cure the duldrums untili something more exciting comes along.

 They are surprisingly fun throwers, and cheap.

Its a little known fact that most HVAC guys are secretly Ninja Assassins who carry these deadly blades for their dirty work, thats why the blades are always beat to hell, its hard work throwing through plate armor.

:D

I don't think I'd throw a folder, mostly because you will eventually kill whatever you are throwing. But maybe a cheapo tanto, like a smith and wesson knife, then shove a wedge on the opposite side of the liner to keep it from failing when it sticks. And WATCH YOUR FINGERS! :)
