Folders that could be throwers

Most PRC-made folders have been great 'throwers' here - a few Pakistani made ones as well. They have been excellent 'throwers' here. I can usually ring the trash can on the first throw. Leave the blade retracted, of course.

The last knife I really threw was my Dad's old KaBar from WWII - Johnson was in his final days as Prez. It went through my AU hollow dorm room door - up to the hilt - at chest height - as a neighbor was bringing his draft physical notice to show me. His look was priceless... as was mine, I am sure. Misplaced aggressions... I haven't 'thrown' a knife since - except into a garbage can. Life is too short to carry a trashy knife. Worn out shoes - pants - stained shirts - but carry a decent knife. I do have a couple of John Greco's fb's that would likely be good 'throwers'.

PS Two months later (2/69), I was on my way to boot camp!

Haha, i test my folders by throwing them. From my experience, spyderco's endura/delica's lock will not be able to handle the throwing impacts and will deform very fast. They're worse than some liner locking knives. What i would recommend is the recon 1 tanto or mini ak47. They are not overly expensive, well balanced, and the tri-ad lock is godly.
Mini ak47's tip may look weak but man! I cant break mine!

Hey,

throwing a folder... U crazy?

(the CRKT M16-sf (the large one) makes a great thrower. It's heavy and pretty well balanced for throwing.) Don't tell anyone else or I'll be banned from all knife forums forever ;-)

WHY?? Why would you want to throw a folding knife? I don't care what quality of knife it is, enough throwing will destroy it. That is the most asinine thing I've heard.

Asinine- foolish, unintelligent, or silly; stupid: It is surprising that supposedly intelligent people can make such asinine statements.

If you see Fred Perrin strolling around at BLADE or another big show, let him know your thoughts on this....lol :D

When I was young I threw some really nice old slip joints. They performed really well for a few throws then invariably the tips would break off.

Many years later I realized that I had destroyed some valuable knives (and some rather cheap ones also).

Haha tilite?! Of course it'll break! Lol

Why so serious =D

Haha, because I don't see anything funny with your previous posts. Now this last one....:p

I'm with you. It's a pointless act.

But...its a free country. What's more fun is taking brand new folders and beating the bejeebus out of them with a sledgehammer. I suggest William Henrys. Or Sebenzas.

Now THERE'S a constructive way pass some time.

you know why fred perrin is throwing from 2 feet? because throwing a folder and having it not hit just right will tear it up, i dont care what brand it is. theres a ton of cheap throwing knives out there to suit any mall ninja you got bubbling up inside you.

You know why Fred Perrin is throwing from 2 feet? Because he's on camera, and standing any farther back, his camera wouldn't show him and the target. It's a demonstration.

I think we are hearing from a few people who are so smart they know throwing folders is wrong, so they don't do it, so ... they really don't know what they're talking about.

Mybe you didn't bother to watch the whole video. Perrin is throwing from way out of focus toward the end - probably 20 ft or so.

Probably 2 feet = less throw mistakes, more powerful throw impact to prove the lock, less time wasted walking thru and fro.. yea i guess. When i get my emerson cqc 7, i'm gonna throw to test it too =D

if you have seen the movie the expendibles there are alot of scenes in there where they will take a folder and just throw it. you said the main problem is that theres no other edge to the blade. ive never tried but id recomend trying a stiletto. another knife thrown in the movie was the cold steel large espada. I know movies are in acurate but im just recomending somthing to try

Throwing knives are manufactured with low hardness (impact resistant) blades. If you throw a straight or folding knife hardened to 60RWC, you're going to break the tip off sooner or later.
