In my quest for the perfect woods knife I find myself coming back to folders...I used to pack a folder all the time when I was young and I was never as picky or paranoid as now...I've discovered on my last campout that after years using a machete or a large knife as a chopper that I much prefer a hatchet...I think a hatchet and a decent folder would go along way....I was reallyinto the vic farmer for a while but as I stated in my other thread I've had a problem with my last few saks (nothing big) but anything is more than I'd want to deal with in the bush...I brought my buck 112 on my last campout did everything I wanted but there's a bit of verticle and horizontal blade play which makes me question the integrity of the knife (I know...I'm nuts) I've totel my lm wave for a while but the grip is not as comfy as I'd like...( I know. I'm nuts) I know I'm nuts...what about you what's your folder?? Pics please...

I just bought a SOG EliteII SE18 with a 5.0 in. blade and I am loving it so far. I carry it every day. Whatever knife you have on you will be your survival knife. This one bridges the gap nicely between fixed blade and folder. It is on the large side and will not make everyone happy but for me it is what I have been wanting. This thing flips open like it made of soft butter, very smooth.

I carry an old Leatherman Wave in the woods and as an EDC. I greased it up and can open it with one hand just as easy as the new Wave. The fact that the tools don't lock doesn't bother me because I've been using Leathermans for years and I have just conformed. I carry it everywhere. In fact today was the first day that I forgot it. I left it laying on the kitchen counter as I went grocery shopping.

Iv'e never been overly fond of folders but this one has served me well, yeah I know it's a CRKT but the lock up is rock solid and I can get it scary sharp, what more can I ask of it ?

Scouting has emphasized the use of smaller blades and axes for a long time. Great combination.

There is a reason so many people rave about the Rittergrip folders. The fullsize one is best for camping - it feels great in the hand, but the mini is much more "pocketable" for EDC.

I'll turn the question around -- What kind of axe do YOU prefer to carry? I tend to prefer long-handled axes versus short-handled hatchets.

foilist... I couldn't agree more the mini-c is all that and a bag o chips thinknig about getting a spare for xmas...

I carry a fiskars hatchet and a SAK caming model. Before that I carried a old OD green handled Bucklite or my 110 for a folder. I still use it around the house every now and again.

I am A Manix Fan All the Way. This and my fiscars Hatchett will do pretty much anything I ask of them.

I always have my SAK Soldier & either my Buck/Stryder 889 or my Spyderco Wegner  On my belt I also like to carry my gerber multi-tool ( easiest one hand open, Great warranty, great customer service, tools lock open)

I always carry my Benchmade Griptilian on me. It is a great knife for the money and has seen more EDC time than any other knife that I own.
