Folding equal to Mora?

I'm sure most everyone would agree you get a lot of knife for the money in a Mora. Not the strongest, prettiest, most collectable, but a perfectly serviceable knife that is cheap enough not to send you into a bout of depression if you lose it or break it.

What is the folding version of the Mora?

Opinal is the one I think of first for under-rated value, but I'm sure there's more.

What's your pick?

The Douk-douk
Mercator k55(the real German one, not the imitation)
The Case sodbuster with CV blade

And as you said, the Opinel. I've been carrying one of these on and off since 1980, and I have not found more bang for the buck yet.

I'll cast my vote for Opinel...nearest thing I can find to a folding Mora! They are great for food prep, making fuzz sticks and slicing just about anything "sliceable." Yeah...I know...I just made up a new word!

Handle is decent out of the box, but I like to sand mine to shape it a little better, then spray with sealer.

+1 on the EKA Swede 88 and similar models, if you want the classic puukko blade shape and Scandi grind.*

I own douk douks, Mercators, Opinels, and lots of SAKs, and they're great, too. By the way, if you want a ringlock folder with a bit more 'voom' than an Opinel, I recommend the Marjacq folders from France.

*All the EKAs I've owned arrived with a nice factory edge and a secondary bevel, but as with a Mora, you can grind away the secondary bevel to achieve a Scandi edge.

Right again! And I'd add one more: The Victorinox Solo with the Alox (aluminum) handle.

Vic Solo can be had for less than ten bucks:

Not quite as cheap as some Opinels, but if a person prefers stainless it's a good choice.

An excellent choice, too. I bought a few of those from SMKW, first for $6.99, and later for $5.99 as they were closing them out. I got the impression that Victorinox had discontinued the Solo with red composition handle, but maybe only SMKW discontinued them. I gave a couple to good friends, and I kept a couple of spares for myself. Oddly, the red handle Solos are a bit larger than the Alox handle Solos, and they have a lanyard hole, too. I've seen the red handle described both as "composition" and as "nylon" so I'm not sure what it is, but it appears to be durable and comfortable to use. Both Solos are thin and flat in your pocket.

Two more good, simple, carbon steel folders are worth mentioning. They are the Boker Sodbusters, full size and medium size. These have nice, light yellow, polypropylene (?) handles with brass pins, and they are made in Argentina. I think they are good, handy, traditional folders that are comfortable to use, though thicker in your pocket than Douks and Solos. I got mine from SMKW for $12.99 and $10.99 respectively, and I like them. The big one needed some washing with a soapy brush and hot water to remove the polishing grit, but that was no big deal.

When comparing utility against cost, a SAK like my Victorinox Hunter lockblade w/saw and other usable tools, is danged difficult to beat. Especially when you get a deal on it. :D

I love my Opinels. I will also put a vote in for the knives from Okapi. They may even be uglier than Mora's and Opinel's, but I still love them. I actually like the non-locking medium sized one better than the large ringlock version, but they are all very good knives. I believe their blades are 1055 carbon steel, but don't hold me to that.
