Folding knife breaks

Fixed blade knives have also broken when stressed laterally.
Things break.

That's the problem with most folders, they just can't take much in the way of lateral stress. Somebody needs to come up with a new folder mechanism designed to take lateral stresses, and can compete with fixed blades, but still fold.

I see what you did there........:D:thumbup:

You know.......there is stressed laterally, and then......THERE IS STRESSED LATERALLY !

Is the purpose to show that only in very, very rare circumstances do knives fail when anything related to lateral force is involved and hence it is not a problem for folding knives?

The usage of a post that is almost half a decade old and in a language other than English kind of suggests this is an extremely infrequent issue and one of the least important concerns in design.

A single event really does not mean anything beyond its own value as an isolated incident. Rare anomalies do not speak to any sort of general trend and when they are used for that purpose, the conclusions drawn are often a little off balance...

The knife in question is a Buck/Strider 880SP and it is built like a tank. I just can't imagine what was done to it to cause such damage.

I had one of those and it always felt very weak, just like you could have just flexed it by hand and damaged it. I think the TI liners on both sides, made it flex a lot more than it should have.

It appears to be the screw that failed, not the lock or liners.
Somebody needs to design a folder that doesn't use pivot screws.

Most of you know for some adventure rallies of my friend Kornolda.
who does not know that I introduce in the action;
As the Kornold is in love with his knife Buck-Strider 880 decided (of course quite significant anesthesia of the brain)
put up with any of zgrzwke that his beloved Buck withstand a breaking away to the side.
At the beginning of wbijaliśmy it in n. at the old desk with all his strength and wyłamywalimsy is getting bigger pieces of the tree.
after some time, when lacking willing Kolnel probably decided to convince himself and with all his superhuman power on a grand scale stuck in a piece of dry beam knife.
that this time went really deep.
few people kept the beam and using all his strength Vrtěl curved it ...
always succeeded .... but suddenly .. twang, łubudu and splash ....

what happened?
not resistant screw on the main axis and the blade was launched in the air straight into the lagoon Reservoir.
After perhaps an hour searching before transplantation rescued us from the oppression found mainly about 4m from the edge driven into the mud.

The whole story testifies to the incredible strength of the knife blade is not broke, after all, just popping screw
