Not really for all types food prep, I just like to use a folder to slice fruit/cheese/meat when on trail breaks. Something about not needing a cutting board - but be careful, of course. How bout some pics of you little folding slicer's? Here's some of mine out for a stroll:

These seem to be the one's that see the most action, but I'm also thinking a nice little fixed blade would also be great to use - easier access and clean-up, but slightly more cumbersome? Let's see them too if you got em:

Don't be shy with the fixed blades now, here's what I also took in case I had to "wrastle" this blackie stalking me - must be the warm weather if their still moving (made me wish I had my Browning Barker with me - for a few moments anyway):

Can't beat a Benchmade...I just gave that fixed one you show to my son to compliment his BM folder. He now "finds" things to do with it. Pity he can't "find" a way to clean his room...

I have one of those Light my Fire folders that comes with a firesteel. Great on boxes at work, fruit, rope, and whatever else I throw at it. I have several other folders, but they are too big for the sheeple I work with to handle.

Food prep? That's just about any edged tool I own, including my Khukuri. :D

These are the knives that I'm most likely to have with me in the field. Nothing real fancy, but terrific working tools.

I use a stainless mora for food prep, easier to clean.
Nice knives, I have a hartsook and love it.
How do you like that little lee valley folder?

For food "processing" when hiking I use mostly my Victorinox fireman, but my wife says that for food slicing nothing beats her Spyderco Centofante 3 .

Love it - great little slicer and good ergo's for whittling as well. It has a swedish name on it - wonder if it's a mora company?

This Tidioute SARPNT is one of my favorites. Big enough blade to cut through a block of cheese or sausage and the spey blade is a great spreader.

Love that Sarpnt - never seen one before - spey blades are excellent for whittling as well.

talk about thoughtful and useful gifts for the offspring - lucky kid.

Two folders I use for food prep while out and about.

i used my opinel #10 out of my pocket yesterday to split a roll for a sandwhich and then cut the sandwich in half. worked wonderfully. gonna start a patina on it tomorow with a couple of apples.

the blade is nice and long and thin, slices great. i really got it for the comfy handle though more than the blade length.

Usually my Opinel #7 gets food slicing duty, but last week I used the serrated blade on my Vic Swiss Tool to split a bagel in half for me and my girlfriend to share. I'm really looking forward to doing some food chopping and slicing with my Spyderco Mule Team knife when it gets here. I can't wait to see what it looks like after it develops a nice patina.

If you want a good food prep folder, get a Kabar Large Dozier, on about $28.00 bucks and one of the damn sharpest knives I have ever seen.

The CS Kudu is the best folder I have for food work. I don't like folders for food prep. The get gummed up inside and are a mess to clean up.

I use my Benchmade Griptilian and more recently my Buck bantam 286 just cause it's inexpensive and I don't feel so guilty putting the wear and tear on it ;). Might I add it is a great knife for less than $30 bucks.
