Footwear

First pair of Moroccan sandals came in... As you can see they're not that nice. The leather is thin and coated with some sort of varnish or plastic. They are comfortable, though, and so far they're sturdy. I think I'll spend a few more bucks and get a "real" pair.

Also included a picture of some leather Mongolian slippers.

Nice! Those look more like my fancy Moroccan pair. I have already broken mine two or three times. Superglue and cable ties to the rescue. They are pretty thin leather too. Im still waiting on my Berber shoes. The Berbers appear thicker from the picture anyway?

Yeah, expecting the Berber pair to be full grain. I just sent them an email, they should at least have shipped them by now.

Thinking to get a pair like this

Now thats cool! I like the way they tie in the front. Probably stronger that way. Thats where mine kept breaking.

So I walked about an hour in the cheapo Moroccan sandals and the leather has stretched quite a bit. The still stay on my feet but I should have bought a whole size smaller.

Maybe you could soak them in water and then let them shrink dry in the sun?

Ironic but my dog ate my fancy ones this weekend. The ones in the earlier pic :D Glad I bought some new ones. I got an email Sunday as well from them saying they were in Morocco and going to ship today so good timing on my new Berbers:thumbup:

I have a feeling that if I soaked them in water, the glue holding them together would dissolve. They just have to last till the Berbers arrive.

Speaking of ethnic footwear, what do they wear in Nepal? I know Auntie posts hats and shawls from time to time, why not footwear?

Most feet I've seen pictures of were either Ndog bare or wearing Niki. I'll have to look around, don't recall any sandals or that sort of thing but I suspect they are there.
I'm sure there isn't a Payless Shoe store on the corner.

Farmers in India wear no shoes as well and when I walked the same path with shoes I had thorns poking into the rubber sole of my old New Balance shoes.
Tough guys. :D

No problem Aunti Y. Hey thats my GCB!

I've seen that sign in person with mine own eye's. I kind of feel obligated to take me wheels off but don't get around too good without em.

Well you get to keep your shoes on my friend! I bet you had a big smile on your head when you left didnt ya?

Definitely big smile. Wife went inside for a few seconds, I never did, too many steps.

I did get close to the warehouse and that made me smile a lot.

Nice sandals!
Thank you for sharing

Thanks!

The Berber sandals arrived yesterday. They're very sturdily built. The leather is thick and tough. The sole is a tire, and its affixed to the shoe with a bunch of small nails as well as glue.

I got mine too Blue. Just as you say they are heavy duty . I got the sidewall. Mine are about an inch and a half too big tho. About the same toe space your showing. Im going to see if they have a smaller pair. Maybe they only come in one size? Maybe I should have ordered 255 17 50 Z-rated :D

edit: They just sent me an email saying i should have ordered a smaller size so throw $12 in the box and return them and they will exchange them. So maybe if anyone else buys these you might oughtta order a size or two smaller then your US shoe size. What do you think blue. Are yours larger than your normal shoe size?

Dont commit no crimes in these shoes! That'll be an open and shut case if you leave footprints eh!

My problem with shoes is im very flat footed. I cant wear anything with an arch.

I have the same problem, thanks to 1970's USAF issue footwear. I have been the gamut with fixes, including gel soles and custom orthotics.
For years I wore nothing but Minnetonka driving mocs, motorcycle road racing boots or Danner hiking boots, and still suffered. Clarks Originals shoes
are pretty much flat as a pancake inside, no arch at all in many styles. They are however somewhat funky looking and pricey unless found on sale or closeout.
I just ordered this pair on Amazon.

A year later and I've got some good wear out of these Moroccan sandals. I put some hiking insoles in them so they fit better. Good for a day hike with a 30 pound pack (or 30 pound 3 year old) on your back but I would want some real hiking shoes for anything more intense.
