Footwear

A year later and I've got some good wear out of these Moroccan sandals. I put some hiking insoles in them so they fit better. Good for a day hike with a 30 pound pack (or 30 pound 3 year old) on your back but I would want some real hiking shoes for anything more intense.

I must say those are some cool skins! From the Moroccan Caravan?

Yup, not sure if they still sell them though. If you order one keep in mind they come really big for their size.

Yep they do come large. Order one full size smaller and you'll be fine. I love mine. Blue: I wear mine every day now in the summer. I wear them to work and even my Moroccan boss dont even say anything. Hes from Rabat. His family is Berber. He thinks they are ugly tho. He likes those fancy colored ones. I had a pair of them too but wore them out very quickly. They were more tourist like models from Fez. Ill add a pic tomorrow because they are in the car but they are wearing very well. You got tire tread if I recall and I got the sidewalls! I kinda got used to them big and just wear them like they are. Great product. Id definitely recommend them and the folks are really nice people.

Yeah, got used to mine being big too. They were too long for my feet but eventually the toes curled up so now they're just about the right length. The only real problem I had with them was when I walked around in a mucky creek with them. When they eventually dried the glue holding the tire sole on had mostly given out. I reglued them with shoe goo and now they handle water just fine. I had to punch some more holes in the straps so I could get them fairly tight around my ankles, otherwise my feet move around in them a bit too much.

Surprisingly that $20 pair of Moroccan sandals I bought off of Amazon are still holding up quite well. The leather is nearly as thin as paper and seems to be shellacked or something. I expected the leather to snap after a few days but they're still going strong somehow.

My problem with shoes is im very flat footed. I cant wear anything with an arch. I usually have to buy a few sizes larger to get the width on production shoes so I usually look for handcrafted custom stuff. I like the tire idea tho. I have often thought about picking one up on the side of the highway as well. Motorcycle tire is a great idea. I know a bunch of bikers so no problem there.

Oh man them ghillies are cool too! Dont let my wife see them. She will have to have some. She like the lace up sandals like that. She calls them Roman sandals?

I like them Pucker toe moccasins too. Funky looking but really comfortable i bet.

My feet are beyond-Flat. I like my "Lems" shoes. http://www.lemsshoes.com/mens-nine2five-black.html

Looking for more suggestions for sure.

My shoes seem to last forever. The tops seem to wear more than the soles? Can't put my finger on it.

Wife threw out my favorite shoes about 15 years ago. Funny story.
At the time my marine youngest was about 7 or so. He comes up to me kind of mumbling and I can't hear what he's saying. Repeated and I'm just not getting it. My oldest finally enlightens me, translating that he says he's going to throw up!

Well of course at that very moment he did indeed throw up, right in my lap and via gravity my shoes.

I just warshed em off some and then I didn't see em for a few days. Asked my wife where the heck my shoes went and she had tossed them. What the heck ya know?

What's up with the new avatar Bawanna? You turning pinko on us?

Hey, hey, hey, Kronkew thunk it up. I thought it was kind of cool but I don't want to get labeled pinko.

I better fix that. Since I can't remember for very long what it means anyhow but it was fitting I think.

Hey I'm kind of worldly ya know. I got a friend that's a Doctor from Russia. Actually he's a very good friend of Bookies but any friend of Bookie's is a friend of mine.
He lives in Texas now and we've written and exchanged stuff so we're almost comrades I think.

Pretty cool for a displace Missouri dirt farmer such myself.

No but that name sounds familiar for some reason.

I think maybe it was Saturday morning cartoons in my youth. That the fella?

Some how, and I honestly have no idea how, but my 3 year old is a huge rocky and bullwinkle fan. She found it on YouTube somehow.

Wow. They seem to have it down.
Looking at a "normal" 14 I can't picture any foot that long and narrow at the same time.
Finally some company seems to have recognized that width increases proportionally with length.
No more hunting for the elusive 6x extra wide I hope.
Will give them a try for sure.
Thanks for the links!!!!

Oh and update on my tire sandal project. There aren't any. The SUV wheels almost won out against my sawzall and there was really no way to separate the rubber from the embedded metal mesh.
Maybe this summer I'll be able to get a hold of motor bike tires.
What I did is used the sole of my broken sandals and replaced the straps with bicycle tube material.

Well hallelujah, I'm cancelling my Ahlzeimers test. I couldn't put my finger on Rocky and Bullwinkle specifically but I knew he was a villain.

Yeah, I watched a lot of Rocky and Bullwinkle. There's a lot of things your 3 year old could watch that would be way worse that Rocky. It was and is a good cartoon.

Kids abilities with computers never cease to amaze me. I guess they aren't afraid to just hit buttons and let the chips fall where they may.

Me and the wife discovered the other night we can't figure out how to play a movie CD anymore. Not sure what we're doing wrong. My son now in Baghdad usually got us through. Maybe I'll figure it out before he comes home.....................

What are those CDs older people keep talking about? Is that a local kind of cloud?

Traditional footwear made in South West parts of Maharashtra state in India - their name comes from the city they are made in typically - Kolhapur, hence this pair is "Kolhapuri". Entirely hand made of leather with intricate work, comes in various colors and detailing. Typically runs between $15 and $50 based on the detailing involved. Very comfortable to wear.

Cool! They look comfortable. There's a store selling them on etsy with reasonable prices but they want $25 for shipping from India.
