For Hardcore Only

Think positive. If the office worker with the spare tire can do it so can you;)

Yeah.... maybe. It's all in the mind.

That is certainly some nice country.

Wow. Those are some stunning pictures. My knees are aching at the thought of all that scrambling, but I'd love to have a shot at that terrain.

It reminds me of parts of the Adirondacks.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow a tag team thread, wonderful.

Thanks so much HD and Mrs. Hd and Ratamahatta.

HD if you keep hiking like that, your spare tire will be steel belted.

Wow... what a nice looking trip... lots of great pics... something I don't do much of.

Thank you, Ski

WOW! I've never seen the likes of THAT in WV before!

Dolly Sods is the Highest Plateau east of the Miss.

That is a pic of the Northern Plains looking west from Bear Rocks.

Behind that far hill is a huge bog called Dobbin Slashings that stretches to Cabin Mt which overlooks Caanan Valley.

A lot of animals and plants up there that are common to Canada and farther north.

I'll try to post the pics of the final leg later today.

Great pics HD, and I love the hat!

You know, I saw one at the All Good Festival this summer and looked one up and bought one.

KAVU CHILLBA HAT

I had worn it around walking but that was the first backpacking trip using it. I have to say it may be my favorite warm weather backpacking hat EVER!

It's made out of some sort of foam and it really is great sun protection, even the back of your neck. Then unlike the regular chinese hats like that it has sort of a net inside with a little headband and a drawstring for your chin.

The net inside and thin headband really dissipates the sweat. Usually on a hot hike I take off my hat because it gets soaked but that hat blocked the shade AND kept me cool. That's really unusual for me.

An added Bonus was when we got rained on walking out it seemed to be a killer rain hat. The foam apparently doesn't absorb water and the shape shedded rain and kept my glasses dry.

What an awesome thread, guys, thanks for sharing! That scenery is gorgeous and I'm a little jealous of the climate you have. It's great that you guys 'clicked' right off. It's tough when you are out in the bush with someone new and you don't hit it off.
This picture is great. It looks like it's all on fire:

Man that is a special area of WV! Here are a couple of pictures from the opposite side of the Red Creek drainage at Dolly Sods. These were taken on a Memorial Day hiking trip. I hope HD doesn't mind me posting these in his thread.

Thanks, Ski

I used an Eagle Industries A-III Pack Airborne 3000 to 3200ci I think, I had it set up wrong the first day and it totally kicked my ass, I never could get it to sit right while hiking, the next day I used it like it should be used, and everything what fine.......

Wow your packed looked a lot bigger than mine capacity wise. Wonder if it's 3000/3200 main compartment and the pockets are not included in the tally?
