For sale shenanigans

I agree, it stinks and isn't very cool when you do it to others. But I gotta tell you, if you find this irritating, you should try making knives for profit and see how often people place an order, go through 5 or 10 emails talking about details, and then cancel two days later. Just gotta suck it up.

Or they just quit responding all together...

Ahhh, good one, and one of my personal favorites. Spend countless hours doing your best work, then send an email with pics letting them know it's ready. And *crickets*...

Laughed at that one rev.

The lie is what got to me. The cover up is always worse than the crime. And then to publicly publish such a lie. That was "lol, whut?"Type funny

Glad you got a chuckle ;)
I agree the lie, is bad but these things tend to linger in the memories of people long after it is said and done. New people here need to be shown the ropes, there are plenty of critics and haters to the way we do things here. The fact is, you cannot please everyone and if you try the only thing you end up getting is stressed out. I can only speak for myself on this but, if someone has constructive feedback I am always willing to take the time to listen and discuss it with them. I enjoy being in a position to try and help people out when I can.

Just curious. There have been at least 2 people in this thread who stated that the guy lied in his request to rescind the sale and several more who insinuated he did. Do any of you know that he was; in fact, lying?

If by "2 people" you mean me, since I started the thread, no I dont know if he is lying. But if he isn't lying it is the greatest miracle since tiny baby Jesus.

On one hand, when you commit to do something, you should follow though. That speaks to integrity. If something happens that prevents said commitment from being from being met, it it falls on that person to communicate that information quickly and efficiently. That speaks to responsibility, that was done here. He did well for a new guy.
^^This!

I'm sure I've backed out of a committed sale at some point in my past, but I don't recall ever doing so. Nevertheless, I often think to myself - "Damn, why did I just buy that. I don't need it. The wife is going to kill me. I'm running out of places to hide this crap..." :)

I don't know if he's telling the truth or not either, but
the greatest miracle since tiny baby Jesus
may be a bit of a stretch. Just last week I was in a store getting ready to buy a heater, and I texted a buddy of mine with a question. He told me he had a heater just like I was about to buy that he would give me. Stranger things have happened.

I do agree that his story did seem a little far fetched...but come on man- "the greatest miracle since tiny baby Jesus"???

Not specifically speaking of this instance since this was pretty quick, but the general practice bothers me because it ties up an item. I see this a lot around the net. I believe people usually pounce on the deal, but have no clue if they can afford it. It hurts the seller because other buyers see "Move along, nothing to see here..." and most prospective buyers since they miss out on a possible deal. This behavior is why on some sites I see constant "I'll take seconds if the deal fails...". Hell, I've seen postings for thirds and fourths! I think selling and buying are something you should be able to commit to before a post. You either want to sell or can afford to buy, or you can't. If you have to waffle because $ is tight, then you DON'T need another knife:)

Please, don't bring baby Jesus into this argument!

Can this thread, please get a blessing from one of the Moderator's?

Oh fine, baby Buddha. Is that better :D

The point is, if this really went down the way this guy said, he should play the gal derned lottery, and quick!

As one of those "two people" that called him a liar I'll have to ask if you know that he was; infact not lying ? ....He already showed low character so the benefit of any doubt is rather thin here.

The important part is the difference between believing someone is telling the truth despite the fact that the story might be farfetched, and actually calling someone a liar based on nothing but what you think is improbable or impossible, basically a hunch. Benefit of the doubt being thin or not, if this was "real life" and not the internet, a mature adult would have to have some sort of proof, weak or not, to actually call someone a liar. Otherwise, you're just running your mouth. Hence the expressions "prove it," or "put up or shut up."

No proof is required to simply believe someone is telling the truth, unless they have a history of lying. Again, he may be lying, I don't know. But that is scant little proof to publicly call someone a liar, in my book. So put up or shut up. That would mean proof.

Running my mouth ?....just like you are here, yes.

Let's ask for proof then, I will e-mail him and ask for a picture of the knife with a specific word in the picture.....

Verbal fencing or not, proof is what matters, not how witty you are. That would be a good start.
