For Sale/Trade Etiquitte

But, what if you want to help keep some unknowing person from getting ripped off? I understand the keep out of it theory, but somehow it is very hard to see someone try to charge an outrageously high price. I mean really, really outrageous price. I wont mention any names or actual knives, but the most recent knife in question is being sold for $2500. I originally bought the knife from the maker for under $1000. What has happened to make the knife worth more than twice the original price? I dont know. So far, I have stayed out of the posted ad.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but this rubbed me wrong.

Make me an offer I can't refuse.

I'm with Rick on this one

If there is not a price or a trade wanted in a post I'm just gonna pass.

If you are around the Forums you know what knives sell for, you know what you want to get out of it. Playing this 'semi-auction' game for another $5-$10 just does not cut it with me.

As for incorrect info, I often wonder what is the right thing to do. I saw a post last week where the finish listed on a for sale knife did not exist, the knife in question was out of production before this finish became available. It bugged me so I emailed the buyer. He had made his deal based on the blade finish in question and was disappointed, but contacted the seller and decided to go ahead with the deal. They were both new Forumites and I'm sure it was not a question of false info on anyones part, just bad info.

Was I right or wrong?

I feel we watch out for each other (ROCK3333, DocBart etc) and having complete strangers watching out for you is a pretty cool thing

Hello all, I think we can all agree that posts in the for sale/trade forum should only include the seller and prospective buyers. If someone wants to let the person know that the knife is cool, overpriced and/or underpriced it should be conducted through private e mails.

All you have to say is you have mail.

Ishay, you did the right thing by emailing him. Maybe it was an honest mistake and he corrected it.
I once posted a certain production knife for sale and stated it was made in the late 60's(which was what I was told when I bought it). I was informed by a BF member that the company wasn't in business before 1976. After checking, he was correct so I removed it from the forum.
As for price, I still say it is up to the buyer to do the research as to whether he wants it for that price or not.
