for the 07 blade show

well there has been a lot going on but i have made some progress and
here are the latest up date pictures...
the forms were time coumsumeing to cut out and then to fit the fleece
( yep fleece not felt) was much more time then i thought ..
and then there are the carry trays ... how to keept he knives from 'clicking' togeather when being moved yet close packed ,,, put a ridge or fold of fleece in between! aga in time comsumeing ...
so far only the one display put togeather but wow it is going to work...

Dave, what did you use to make the forms? Is that fiberglass maybe? The display is coming along great! Nice job!

Hey Dave, don't keep us in the dark. What did you use for the backing and where did you find it and the fleece?? You get all the bugs worked out and I may let you do my displays :D :p :)

sorry guys ! been very bussy!
it is two layers of foam board with each part cut out and glued togeather
the fleece is sprayed gluded to it.

it holds the knives in well enught at an angle of 75 to 80 digrees tilt as intended orgionaly but a new thought come to me...
i will be putting mangents in the blade section to hold the knives
with the frames being used at 90 digrees hanging on a wall...!!!
yep two fer one use!!! :D {wifes idear}

the carry box i have the trays done but the box it self not started

what i am after is to have the knives so i dont have to open and
close the balde all the time!!!
to many circle marks happen... :thumbdn:
so in essence now when i finish i will not have to close the blade on a show knife at all as it stores in the open position.... ;)

there is so much work on this and the chart of all 110's
400+ entres of 110 linited editions and a few others...
that i dont have much fun so far... :(
the fun will balnce out the work at the show! :D

back to work at the new key board....
to much coffie splurted on the old one from
reading some of what you guys wright! ;)

corse dont use restroom tolit seats in late nite gas statinos either!
nope no sea food to eat on me !!!

up date:
this project has been a process of errors and corrections
and a lot of learning on what not to do on the next set!!

i got the lids on the frames and the fleeace on the forms
and gluded in magnets on all 4 of them and installed in the frames...
went to have plexy put in ... wow
98$ for plex glass for all 4
what has happened to make that so so expensive?
i figured about 4o to have it cut to fit but ...
and to top it off i had to buy two large sheets as they
cut one and it cracked on the edge!!!!
i still have to find glaser points to hold the plexy in...
will post picts asap when done with them!

materal alone in this if i used store bought oak
would be almost 200$ on each!!!!!
no wander displays are so expensive!!!

i jest have some diffcultuy with the cost of materal
in this so far and i HAD the wood already!!

and i still have to figure out a way to stand them up on the table!!!
any idears most highly welcome>>> PLEASE !!

Hi Dave,

you wonna stand up the displays? In what position? Upright? Or in what angle to the table board? What kind of Table do you have?

Best,
Haebbie

mostly up right but at a angle of apx 80 digrees [or up to 15 from vertical]
table hight likely is the same as a standard dineing room table
the show provides folding tables... if not i have one i can take ...

the 10 digree angle is to let taller persons to see with out a
lot of bending over.. yet allow shorter persons to see also..

some one emailed to take angle alum.
and make legs that fold out from the back on each side...

a trypod is to wobbley at the top due to the weight of the knives
if some one bumped the table >>> which is what i had thought to do but loaded with knives is rather heavy for that..
each holds 24 knives...
i have 4 of them = 96 bucks ( yes joke intended hee hee... )
did not make 110 110's :( :o

i may take an old cabnet that dont match to
make it to 110 or more bucks:D

It would be funny if you are able to show the 110 110s :-).

An elegant possibility for the stand is: to double the backside of the case with a board of wallboard (3/16 thick). You mount the board with little hinges on the top of the Displays. You fix the Display and the Board on the bottom with two short posts, one at the right and one at the left hand side. These two have two cutouts, a larger one one in front for the display frame and a small one for the Board. The Distance between the two cutouts fixes the angle. And if you make them a bit longer, it would stabilize the Stand. Ant if the Wallboard is too libbery labberig or anything else, you can munt a cross or a framme made of wooden strips.

Is the text understandable? If you like, I make a drawing.

I've some other simple ideas, if you don't like the upper one, I'll send you one more.

Best,
Haebbie

Hey Dave,
If I remember right, those show tables are either 18 inches wide or 2 foot. Either way, they are narrow and you cant bring your own. Your display cant stick out into the main isle at all but it CAN stick out the back side of the table where you sit. Mine does. I just lay mine flat and stick about 3 inches under the back side to angle it towards the side where everybody walks.

One more thing, I hope you use those knife boxes as a pillow each night during your trip to Atlanta. It seems each year we hear of someone getting ripped off during their travels to the show. :grumpy: Leaving them in the car while you sleep in a hotel is risky.

well now i have more to think on !
my cases are 32 inches tall!!! 22 inches wide...
12 one tens in two vertical colums with 1 inch between knives...

18 to 24 inches is not a lot of table...

Haebbie that one is like one i thought of but it is the hindge part i dont like
i want to be able to use them as display on the wall also... so suport has to be removeable....

yes i will make me some more buck boxes if i need
to with foam out side if i need also!!!
that and 20 kelos of chain should discurage
some one from jest a snach and run!

Dave,
it's not necessairy to remove the stand, the second back makes the Display just a quarter of an Inch thicker than without.

Haebbie

You have two boxes right. How about hinging the two of them together so they hold each other up. Just angle the boxes a bit and one will hold up the other.

i have 4 dubble locked cabnetts with shater resistante lexan...
but i also need to make them do duity as wall hanging displays!

Haebbie, i have decided to use your idear to make it happen..
addationly i have located chest lid holders that will work fine
as a hold open strechers to stand up instead of a ribbon or chain...
a long hindge [ 12 inches ]at the top will also allow to use a wire hanger to place on the wall and the lid holders at the bottom will also allow the bottom to be out 1/2" from level which is great...
will work on them tomarow ... this is getting expensive!
gas at 3+ gal., 12 hrs of drive one way, motel for 4 nites and grocerys yet ...
hope it works out ... and i see people smile at my displays!
getting excited... karen says i am talking and tossing in sleep a lot!!!

Dave,

I am plased to read, that you like my proposal. Its a pity, that America is so far away from Europe. When I read what you write I take a fancy to help you buliding the Displays and to travel with you to the Blade show. I think that will make a lot of fun. I hope you have a nice time in Atlanta. And that you come back home save.

Take care, Haebbie

The tables at the Blade Show are 24 inches wide.

thanks larry!
with what Haebbie described the front to back foot print of the display will be apx 14 to 16 inches
i have most of it cut and ready to attach
jest lack staining it and clear coating it.. to do that
