:jerkit: ...

this was a good on track
topic and has been here a long time, does the new guys no good if they don't know it's there.. you seem to be the one trhat caused it to side track..

But it's keeping it up there:D . you seem to be very matter of fact about your self..

I just put forth my opinon..

hows the whether up there??:D
thanks guys for keeping this up :)

I do want to add
if this is not put back up as a sticky I will not add more to it's information
just to get lost,,,
when mark williams
put this up as a sticky I did believe it would stay there, it's the reason I worked on it and added to it..and now I can't even get a reason why it was taken down, and you'd think I could get one at least for the work I put into it.. I didn't do it for me but for you guys..

it's been hit over
9000.00 times with very few interuptions
I think it's done very well..

I'D still like to know why it was taken down??
Darrel do you have any idea why.. I know Mark was here when I asked why the first time?? no re turn..
guess I rubbed him the wrong way?? if we don't have our opinon then what do we have?

For new fellas wondering where all the info is that Dan is talking about (and has so graciously taken the time to put together for all of us), it is in the very first post. And believe me when I tell you it was not done in 15 minutes, there is many, many hours (or days)(or weeks) ;) of work here. Thanks again Dan. I still use it all the time and it is very handy when it is at the top

thanks Dave
I put a lot more work into the knife making site for the guys,, know one can take that one away.. ;)

I for one would like to thank you for you time you put into your website ( and the links you put here ). When I made the choice to try knife making I almost turned away from the idea due to some of the things I first read on the web. It looked like the investment was way to high for me to even think about getting into the field of knife making. I did a google search and found a few guides but most of the forging info talked about power hammers, Kilns, and heat treating ovens. Things a person like me would not be able to pay for right now. I almost gave up on the knife making but I clicked one more like ( from google ) and it ended up being your web page. The info there showed me that with a little investment ( or none at all for that matter ) I could start making knives. I did some more searching and later on ( a few days later ) I found this forum.

In most arts ( and as it looks to me knife making is an art form ) some of the true master ( or people that have been doing it for a long time ) forget what it was like to be a beginner. I am glad to see that someone is willing to help bring new people ( like me ) into the field ( and art form ) of knife making.

Thanks again for your time and thanks for the help you are giving to people like me. Without people like you willing to help us along I would have thought that knife making would be to costly for me to get involved in.

If the mods want to leave this off of the sticky list, the least they could do is give a reason.

Kind of strikes me as odd that it hasn't been pinned yet...

I'm sure they must have a good reason. Don't moderators attend a special class about being moderate, unbiased, above reproach, kind, considerate, responsive, judicial, and above all..honest?

Oh well...I'm doin my part to keep this number 3 until Dan decides to freshen this up and start a new thread without all the retarded comments about why stickies are stoooooopid. :D

Im not sure why the rhetoric needs to be bumped up ....

rhetoric? hmmmm

oh you mean the informational text on the first post , RRRR hmmmm no that can't be it..that post is not close to rhetoric,,
9000 views can't be giving one the wrong idea about that post right??
your posts or rhetoric as you put it on the other hand has helped to keep it up though
yeahup must be your posts you're talking about???
come to think about it wasn't it you that said talk or rhetoric as you put it is what you believe an open forum is for?? now I'm confused ;) :D
the topic had nothing to do with where you've taken this thread. anyway

how's the air up there anyway..?? coming up, 4th floor please,,:D

Thanks Guys...:D

Good Morning Blade Forums ! :) Looks like its going to be another Beautiful Day here in da U.P. The sky is gray ( Hi Dan ;) ), I mean grey, it is 4* outside, (a very cold 4* I might add) with light snow. We have a couple feet on the ground (much less than usual for this time of year), but none the less Beautiful. God its great to be alive and making Blades. I can't begin to tell you how much this thread has meant to me Dan, at least the First Post. How is the weather north of me ? edit: crap, it aint so beautiful after all, I just remembered I have to go to Green Bay today.

Hmmmm...Greeeen Baaaaaay? Didn't they have a football team at one time. :D

rhetoric? hmmmm

Dan, I think Alan was referring to the 'retarded' comment.

I agree with Alan, in this regard. There's no need to debase this thread with name-calling. Differing opinions abound... if someone doesn't agree with you, that doesn't make them dolts, right?

Besides, as you pointed out, it inadvertently bumped the thread!:D

I dont believe in "Sticky" topics at all.

I think it's just a lame idea of the lazy.

Topics should have a lifespan.
A topic should start , haveing been started by a person who is interested in new views and new answers on a topic.
The topic should grow and be allowed to walk it's own path.
and most importantly, the topic should be allowed to die.

Im sick to death of people telling others to go back and read some posts that were writen months if not years ago, by people that have been long gone from the forum.

This is a 'MESSAGE FORUM" ..a message forum is not to be thought of as like a book. Here we should invite new posts, even if you have heard the same question before a ton of times.
Each poster should be respected enough to be given his or her own moment to write whats on their heart.

BECAUSE?,,,
Because they are not just reaching out for "information" they are really reaching out to others with the same interest...they really come to the forum looking for friends.

Stickys are more trouble than they are worth, they get in the way of the layout of the forum, and they dont help anyone anyway...
And they are used by some people to make new people feel bad for no reason.
And they are actually in the way more than they could ever help.

I remember at one forum I was a member of that had about 12 different "sticky" topics at the top of the listings....

I wrote to the forum Mod and asked whats the deal?
And I was told that on such-and-such topic there was some important information on page 4, and another topic had some good ideas on page 8 and another topic had some good points to make on page 7....etc,etc,etc,

Thats crazy talk if you ask me....

Well "retarded comments" was inappropriate because people who are truely retarded can't help themselves.

How should we respond to someone that says stickies(that are used on every forum that I'm aware of) and the people that use them are lame, lazy, and crazy? Looks like Alan pegged the meter on the Rhetoric Scale to me. He drew first blood. I think that's what Dan was saying in a different way.

In the immortal words of McCartney...
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Sticky words of wisdom, let it be.

Hey Kerry.

Nice lead-in to a Beatles song, very well done. And what do you know, it's managed to bump this thread again!

Check your PM's, btw, Kerry!

Matt
did anyone call me a name??
if I missed it I want to add it to my list , names I've been called.. :)
if anything was said by me to allude to a name calling thought to be called by me on someone else, then to those in party that thought such a thing be it known It wasn't me it was my alter ego evil brother twin that died at birth that did it.
that's my story and I'm sticking to it..

all kidding a side ,
lets get back on track here please, a word first.. Kerry I wrote this just before you posted yours so this is not directed at you nor any one member here...
name calling: has gotten to be a sore subject with me.. just a word to the wise...
I've been blamed for calling names here before, on top of things not even said by me ..because of words typed and not enough said..this gives to much of a chance for someone to read between the lines..
even when things said only meant as joking , and meant in good fun,
but I can say Now
once said and if twisted a bit it's a hard thing to correct or take back, even if after the same things has been said many times before all in good fun.

to forgive and forget to move on and to hold no mauls this is what separates the men from the boys I guess when things go astray, when the meeting of the minds are not met any longer, when stupid little things seem to make a bigger deal then it should..
it's really sad but it happens, so no matter how well you think you know someone don't bank on anything....it will bite you in the A$$ as soon as we do....
some times it's better to tipsy toe in a comfort zone then it is to take a chance on braking something and getting cut over it..

so please if I have made anyone think I did any name calling here in this thread I'm sorry it wasn't meant to be I assure you, though I don't see that I did that but if I did please point it out. I do learn from my mistakes
and if anyone else has done this here please let this subject go, I don't want this thread getting locked up because of not seeing the hind sight of 20-20 that I see now over this issue..
I would like to see this thread stay on subject/topic somewhat, the harmless weather bumping I see as just that, bumping it up..if it doesn't stay on track and ends up a mud fling I'll shut it down myself..

I suggest another thread with the appropriate topic for the discussion of
why informational threads should not be a sticky.. .. :)

Hi Dan,

I was referring to Kerry's use of the word, not yours. Sorry if I wasn't clear!

OOOPS! Another bump! How could I?;) :D

OK Matt,,, now see, I've blabbed off again :o :o :)

dang
I should have waited for a better placed timing for an other bump :( :D

I'm good. I'm just a KnifeHead tryin to learn more and stickies are goooooood. Grouuuuuuphuuuuuuugggggg:p
