For those of you who leave the asking price in the Knife Exchange

I like seeing prices for sold items. I don't care if the final price has changed. I do the same thing for other items too. Just because I look at a sports car doesn't mean that I think the asking price is the same as the sold price.
It is also neat to see historic prices. I don't think anyone expects to pay the same for an item now that they paid 20 years ago, but it's just nice to see the tracking of those prices.

I explained why your “issue“ isn’t much of an issue. I’m not demanding anything. Calm down.
I don’t have an issue. I’m not posting the sale price, people are still going to low ball, some will cite sales history here or elsewhere, or use it to gouge, my posts will say $SOLD and you can be mad. Nothing else to address really, so I guess that’s it for our discussion. Buh-bye.

"Wow, all these bladeforums sales are going to completely eliminate the deficit!" "Wow, all these bladeforums sales are really going to let us spend even more money we don't have!"

Fixed that for you.

Reading a one-sided fight is a clue that perhaps I should click "show ignored content".

I'm with OP. If you sell a knife it feels more genuine if you leave the price. It satiates my curiosity and it feels like the seller's standing by his price. Hiding things will always carry a negative perception from me. I wouldn't regulate that they must, but I think it's great to celebrate the ones that do.

Brother I’d hurry up and delete that and make it your own quote they don’t take kindly to editing people’s comments at least I think they don’t.

Generally I (we) don't, but since there was no ill intent and nothing malicious involved, we'll let it slide.

That said, let's not slide off into politics. It was meant as a lighthearted observation. Let's leave it there.

I prefer when people leave the price--I have used that a number of times to decide my own listing price and if a knife is even in my price range. I get why some people don't like it, but I leave up the listing price unless the buyer asks me to remove it (which has yet to happen). So +1 for the "leave them up" vote.

I'm for leaving the price, for historical reasons.

It's asking price that is seen.... Not the final sales price between the two people.
and having low offers is Better than no offers. It opens the door to communication.

Now that you mention it, I've actually one or two buyers start with a lowball and then come up to something I considered reasonable, including one time where they paid my asking price after I explained why I set it to what I did.

Sometimes people don't initially understand the actual value of the item....
Good conversation can lead to that.

I remove prices, but will respond if asked. The last few times I have been asked I have told them the price, but have had to explain that I did'nt think it would be of much benefit to the person. The price IMO did'nt reflect the true market price, just what I wanted-which I was sure was significantly below market, though I could'nt say what exact market price was.
Personally do'nt think the price left is of much value without the thought behind the price.
But leave them if you wish, some appreciate it.

It's ultimately the seller's choice ... no question <unless Kevin changes BF rules>.

As StoneAndSteel StoneAndSteel said, the seller has the choice to honor the buyer's request to remove the listing price, if asked. Even then, the seller retains the right to leave it up, if they want to.

Take down your prices if you want to...no skin off my nose...might chap someone else's ass...but who gives a flip really?

Also, always keep in mind...posted listing price is often not equivalent to actual selling price. So there's that.

Freedom of choice is wonderful even when it extends into a hobby as trivial as knife accumulating, could you agree?

I am always happy to see the initial asking price remain, figuring the item sold for whatever was negotiated between buyer and seller. Having the asking price removed does not bug me, but having the item completely removed from the sale thread does...it often makes it seem like there is something sketchy going on.
