For those of you with a LARGE Sebenza 21 & 25

As one of the biggest fans of the 25, I feel obliged to offer your 25 a good home. Especially if it is a CF model. Friends don't let friend's abandon Sebenzas!

Thank you,

Justin of the Canadian Coalition for the Prevention of Sebenza Abuse.

Thanks, but I think I will gift it to a friend or family.

my 21s will be buried with me!

I like opening the 25 better....and I like closing the 21 better (as it's easier). The 25 opens with authority and with a much more demanding and pronounced "thwack!" I'm not talking about flipping it really hard or anything, but I guess the small extra weight of the 25 makes for a stronger opening. As for closing it, it's much easier with the 21. I spent all day going back between one and the other. Having said that, I think I would rather have a 25 in damascus....as it would come with a thicker blade and it would open a bit nicer. It's a shame there isn't a little more surface space for your thumb on the 25 to allow for an easier closing. I tried with gloves on....tight leather ones, and I was able to close the 21 with ease. The 25 gave me some trouble...

Maybe I'm in a small group that prefers the 25 over the 21....

I think I belong in that small group....I love the blade on it, the ceramic ball interface, the gimping, the infamous "thwack", the handle shape, etc. the 21 is just below it though; that will always be the "yardstick"; the action is addictive also.

I really like the 25, but cannot, with a good heart, shun or ignore my 21's lol...two diff knives that are enjoyable in their own right.

Yep...they are two different knives. I will say though, I made the right call going with the 25 instead of the 21 on the Starbenza, IMHO....

Yeah.....ya know, if I'm going to sit back and shoot a game of pool and cut a nice cigar tip off while drinking a 25 year old scotch, I'll whip out the 21. If I have to go ahead and cut a bunch of cardboard boxes, I'll draw the 25. ;)

Very well put; it makes sense to me!

I understand why they called the 25 the Sebenza 25, but I wonder if more 21 lovers would like it if it had been called the Large Inkosi (or any other name) including the changes introduced with the current Inkosi. I know it's just a name, but I wonder...

The thing is I really like the 25 when I hold it, but after a couple days when I was trying to justify my purchase (because I hate owning $$$$ knives I don't think I'll use for some reason) my thought process was if I had to choose a Sebenza it'd be a 21 due to various reasons (classic look, pivot bushing, etc), but since owning my Inkosi I've wondered if I'd spring for a revamped Large Inkosi if/when they make their debut...and it's possible.

Part of the reason I like my Inkosi so much is that it's not a Sebenza and that it's so different than my 21s. I also think part of the reason I ditched my 25 after a couple days was because I tried to save a buck and bought a 3rd owner, slightly modified one and couldn't get over a couple things. Brand new only for me from now on.

Try not to throw the baby out with the bath water. You can get some BNIB no problem.

I also don't take 3rd hand users.

Don't put the cart before the...horse? [emoji14]

My large 21 is technically a 3rd owner, but I think it was never more than fondled very briefly. And I've had 5 or 6 secondhand CRKs in my possession. The best action I've ever felt on a large 21, and it was perfect when I got it.

Nothing wrong with a 3rd owner piece in MOST cases with a CRK. Many people buy them and just display them in a case...like I used to do with all my Microtech custom pieces. I would buy them, play a bit with them....go, "wow...cool...wow...hehe" than put it back in the case and be done. Some do that with their Sebenzas. I for one do not. I will NEVER again buy a knife that I don't have any intention on using. If I own it, I will use it. And for that matter, I won't spend more than $600-$800 MAX on a knife that I can legally carry. To carry around a 4.5" Microtech custom OTF that can be taken away from you is stupid....unless you are allowed to legally carry it. Even so, for I Microtech to cost that much...it usually has a very nicely polished blade that you wouldn't want to cut anything with and just have it as a safe queen. I made a decision when I sold all my custom MT knives, "any knife I purchase from here forward will be a user....no more safe queens."

..... "any knife I purchase from here forward will be a user....no more safe queens."

You might only wind up with a dozen knives or so.

To USE a knife is to use it....cut food, paper, cardboard, wallboard, wood.....without abandon.....in many cases you will destroy the value of your knives.

Is that what you are thinking?

Yes....any knife I will ever buy will be used as a knife should be used. To cut food with, to peal an apple, to cut a piece of rope, a cardboard box.....whatever. In the past, I would never dream of doing anything like that with my custom Microtechs. These CRK knives not only look fantastic, but perform well beyond belief!!

It's kinda like this.....owning a Lamborghini and just keeping it parked in the garage to look at. NO!! Take that thing out and drive it like ya stole it.

While I see and agree with this thought process on principle....by that....you miss out on some great knives.

The Japanese have a philosophy which breaks down to your being the steward of great swords/knives....to own and pass on the next generation. I embrace that.

You are free to do what you will as you will....btw....I own(and frequently shoot) a Cylinder & Slide Adventurer+.....for the 1911 .45 analogy!

I have the 21L and its been getting the most edc time. I appreciate the simplicity of the design and the ease of maintenance which is required for it. I only need 1 allen key and some grease and in under 20 minutes, the whole folder can be taken apart, cleaned and assembled back. Setting it up is even minimised compared to other knives where a little bit of centering works is required. I do not have a 25 but I do a umnumzaan that have similar pivot and lockbar system. Both have their pros and cons, but for day2day usage, I am drawn more to the 21Large. IMO the perfect 21L would be a double thumb stud, micarta inlays and standard finish blade in any flavour.

I like that Japanese philosophy, I often think about my grand kids inheriting a nice Kiku Matsuda Katana Or a Hayabusa (or any Kiku for that matter) unfortunately I don't have 2400 dollars to buy one, if I could find one. One of these days I shall build a 1911, did you build your C&S Adventurer? (I don't know if that is possible) I would think that there is nothing more satisfying than building a 1911 from scratch, I love 1911's!!

If I don't use and handle the knives, I don't think I'm missing out....IMHO.

I built a 1911 from scratch with my uncle, just the frame on up....I enjoyed making it and shooting it, but would I trust my life with it?? NO WAY. It's fun to shoot at the range and nice to look at it and remember all the work and effort we put into it to fire....most of the time, lol.

I don't think I'm missing out on that many great knives, if I thought a knife was really great....I would buy it, but would use it. I wouldn't just let it sit there for eye candy. That's my point. I wasted a lot of time and money collecting things I never got to fully enjoy. Instead of collecting Microtech knives for example, I now started to collect CRK knives. And unlike my MTs, I will carry and use my CRKs. Not sure if I made myself clear earlier. Anyways... :)

It is "possible" to build anything I suppose, but the Adventurer+ is a five+1 shot 1911 with a very tricky slide setup(bull Bar-Sto barrel without a barrel bushing). I didn't build it, and happily, considering the price, didn't buy it.....was a gift from a very dear friend.

After attempting to relieve the ejection port on a Series 70 Colt slide and FAILING, I realized that my gunsmithing skills are not up to par, and had C&S finish modding my project(Colt Commander). I don't recommend them for a variety of reasons at this point, should the project be necessary now, maybe would go with Nighthawk, Les Baer or WC....but overall, they did an excellent job. Have taken two combat classes with it, firing over 300 rounds each time, and once I scrapped the two piece rod, it has performed without issue, and is incredibly accurate.

At the first class, watched one of the instructors hit a life sized silhouette ram at 300 yards with a Glock .45 on the first shot. Didn't think that was possible, but saw it with my own eyes!

My point is that there is use and there is USE.

I will use my micarta inlaid 25 to do just about anything that needs to be done, and it will be fine at the end of the day....if there is grievous injury to it, a spa trip will set all as new...but I also carry this knife

To use/thrash it in the same manner as the 25 would be almost criminal, but I can assure you that if YOU owned it, you would find it a satisfying experience to cut food, or open a letter/clam pack or clean your nails. To touch on your car analogy, if you used your Ferrari to go off-roading, you would likely hate life fairly quickly, but to drive it con brio on a sunny day would likely have you feeling like you would die a happy man!

You could have used any of your Microtech knives that were legal to carry in a similarly responsible manner without causing them much harm or compromising value...there are of course practicality issues.

Carrying and using a Makora DE is likely not an ideal for the majority, but beyond that, from a Scarab on down size-wise, can't think of any reason not to happily carry and use.
