For those of you that regularly carry a fixed blade what is your favorite material for a sheath? Leather, Kydex, or something else?

Depends on the knife, I like a well tooled leather sheath for a more traditional FB but for a SD style knife kydex is the way to go. If I could have anything I wanted a hand tooled leather sheath, a pinned leather retention strap and a kydex insert. If I had my druthers...

I agree with T. Ederlyi; It depends on the knife. But I am definitely more of a fan of leather sheaths. Kydex has never grown on me but I like spyderco's injection-molded polymer sheath with my Aqua Salt.

Kydex, because I carry handle down.

In a hunting knife, I carry in a pack and prefer nylon with a plastic insert. When I field dress an animal, I can just stick the knife back in the sheath and wash and disinfect both later. They come out looking like new. Leather gets blood stained and is not sanitary. However, leather looks the best, and I prefer it for a camp or hiking knife.

Leather or nylon for me. Plastic err, *kydex* looks cheap and can at times I'm sure...be far more uncomfortable when worn depending on how you wear it. It's only benefit imo is the retention but, as long as you have good retention straps on either nylon or leather...they're just as good imo.

That's a nice Patton there Cm, is that your second one as it looks a little shorter. Man you sure have some cool blades.

I like the look and feel of leather, but prefer kydex for regular use. It's easier to get more carry options with different clips and belt loops, it doesn't rot or get damaged easily and you can usually make a slimmer sheath than if you were using leather.

I like the look and feel of leather but for edc I always use kydex or polymer because of the versatility retention and colour all black is usually less noticable

Depends on the use, I suppose. Kydex is what I have for my large choppers and small utility blades, Leather is what I have for my smaller EDC blades, and some mid size hiking blades, and Nylon is what I carry my knife in on my kit. They all have their uses and purposes.

For pocket carry & a small fixed blade (6" or less), leather is what I prefer in the right-front pocket. I typically like leather over kydex in general, but each one has its place. Above posts are pretty good at spelling it out. This is a 5 7/8" blade that fits into the pocket well, doesn't print visibly & after a while, you don't even know it's there.

Yeah, this is carry friendly size!

I love the look of leather but TBH I live in a more urban area and we're not allowed to have fixed blades showing here in my state, so I'm about to make a bunch of IWB kydex sheaths... I just don't like the feeling of IWB leather.

Leather almost exclusively. If I have a sheath made for a knife, it'll be leather. The only kydex sheaths I have are the ones that came with my Doziers. And even those get carried a lot of times in a leather pocket sheath. Once in a while I'll wear the kydex horizontal sheath with my Personal Utility, but most of the time, it's leather.

Just curious, did you build in some sort of welt in your sheath? If possible I would also like to see what your knife looks like out of the sheath? Looks like a pretty cool little knife!

I like leather sheaths for belt carry. There is the feel and smell of leather, and it breaths, less likely to scratch the blade. Leather looks good too. Around the house I tend to wear a housecoat a lot, so I have a small 4 inch fixed blade in a kydex sheath clipped to the pocket of the housecoat. That knife sees constant use, more so than the EDC fixed on the pants.

I thought I didn't have a preference, but realized I end up making a leather sheath for nearly every knife I get that comes with kydex.
