For those who carry fixed blades.

I think I end up doing the same as you, ERRN. There is just something cool about a fine leather sheath. And, BTW, love the signature... I remember watching him say it. Poor guy almost got it right!

Being in CA, you have much trouble with sheep and police carrying a blade that size?

Never. I've been carrying a large fixed since summer of 2015.

I carry a fixed blade everyday, usually iwb back left hip opposite my firearm. If not that way then it is cm style. Camping or hiking I'll rock it on the belt. I'm a 90% kydex kind of person.

I prefer leather for most of my fixed blades.
Feels friendlier, less noisy in my bag.

Leather, specifically the stiff type with a line of rawhide in the middle, dont know what you guys call it. It's called "rårandslær" in norwegian. It think its maybe "half-tanned"?. Very tough and durable. Hold it's shape great when dried.

If a knife is supplied with a bad sheath I'll make one like that.

Here's a shot of the blade & sheath together.

I prefer leather in general, but use environment sometimes indicates plastic/kydex/nylon is needed. Leather will rot, retain contamination and biological residue. The others can be cleaned or deconned more easily.

I have been making my own kydex lately, so it is nice I can make another whenever. I prefer it for edc use. Always did like leather though.
